Dorothy King Paintings
Dorothy King was born and lived in London in 1907. She studied at the Hornsey School of Art under JC Moody, then briefly at the Slade School of Fine Art with Randolph Schwabe. She took up painting professionally after the war and in 1947 was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists. In 1959, she was a temporary keeper of its galleries in Suffolk Street and then from 1961–74, was a keeper of the South London Art Gallery. King’s paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New English Arts Club and elsewhere in the UK. Her work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. A memorial show was held at the Mall Galleries in 1992 after her death in 1990.
