Eduardo Roca Art
Spanish, b. 1973
Eduardo Roca was born October 8, 1973 in Almería. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Granada and lives and works in Vienna since 2009.
Since the beginning of his career, Roca has moved with a high level of technical skill, a feel for light and color in the – at first glance – classic genres of landscape, still life and portrait, with landscapes representing the majority of his oeuvre. One quickly realizes that the technical skills of the artist are a motor for constant further development: Roca perfects the selection of the cut-out, selection and reduction of the color palette, light as a design factor and always gets involved in the immediate experience of urban situations. Roca questions the genre landscape as such by choosing subjects and charging them artistically, which at first glance have nothing to do with a landscape, such as factory premises or construction sites. A high point of this development and, at the same time, the turning point to the imaginary landscapes are variations that he paints from a motif and combines into an overall work, like the “Variaciones” in this exhibition. 25 views of an inconspicuous – real – house result in an impressive ensemble and show in a concentrated form the possibilities of expression and artistic enhancement that a motif that at first glance can experience banal. This has nothing to do with a landscape in the conventional sense.
This multiplication can no longer be increased and Roca, in all its radicalism, starts to design and thus reduce its landscapes as a whole. The result is usually vast, deserted landscapes with a mystical light, the attempt to locate them in a forced manner must fail. Since the landscapes are constructed, nothing about them is accidental: there are no people. They are only remembered by buildings, but much more by their remains, which create a morbid feeling and force the viewer into the role of a late survivor. The emptiness is deceiving, however, because it is the viewer who is supposed to enliven and experience the scenes, and the works are clearly called upon to do so.
Roca uses the almost god-like freedom to create landscapes for mostly unusual breadth and depth. Deep horizons increase the effect, as does an often glistening light that reveals the origin of the artist. The stage is created, he leaves the conquest to others.to

Chester Cathedral - Drypoint Etching in Ink on Paper
Dramatic drypoint etching by J. Alphege Brewer (British, 1881-1946). This composition shows the interior of Chester Cathedral in Brewer's characteristic style - highly detailed and with strong contrast. The scene encompasses the cathedral from floor to ceiling, capturing the immense size of the building. There are several people in the scene which contribute to the sense of scale.
Signed by hand "J. Alphege Brewer" in the lower right corner.
Titled "Chester Cathedral" in plate, lower left corner.
Includes original card with artist's name.
Presented in a new black mat with foamcore backing.
Mat size: 16"H x 12"W
Paper size: 10.75"H x 7.75"W
James Alphege Brewer was well known in the early 20th century as a producer of color etchings of European cathedrals and other scenes of church, college, and community. He was born July 24, 1881, in the Kensington section of London, England, the son of Henry W. Brewer, noted artist of historical architecture and prominent convert to the Catholic Church, and the grandson of John Sherren Brewer, Jr., “the brilliant editor of the Calendar of Letters of Henry VIII.” His great uncle was E. Cobham Brewer, the polymath who compiled Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable. Among his older siblings were the artist Henry C. Brewer and the organist and writer John Francis Brewer.
Brewer attended the Westminster School of Art in London, where his brother Henry also trained. In 1910, he married Florence Emma Lucas, an accomplished painter in oil and watercolor, whose father was the noted landscape artist George Lucas and whose great uncle was David Lucas, the famous engraver for John Constable. Florence's brothers Edwin and George assisted Brewer in the printing of Brewer's etchings.
Brewer exhibited at the Royal Academy (RA) and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (RI), at the Paris Salon of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and in the shows of the Royal Cambrian Academy (RCA). He became an associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1929 and a full member in the last two years of his life. He was also a member of the Hampstead Society of Artists, the Society of Graphic Art, and the Ealing Arts Club, where he was first Honorary Art Secretary and then Honorary Art Chairman. Most of Brewer's larger etchings were published by Alfred Bell...

Seascape, California Coast
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Seascape, California Coast" is an oil painting on canvas by noted California artist Willam Henry Blackman, b.1930. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist, also stamped signed in the back. The canvas size is 23.75 x 48 inches. It is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
William H. Blackman was born February 2, 1930 in San Diego. He spent most of his early years in West Los Angeles. He became interested in art at about the age of 12 when he painted his first oil painting. In high school he majored in art so he could experiment with various mediums to find ways to interpret his ideas.
In December of 1948 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. After his tour of duty he returned to California and attended Woodbury College to learn about advertising and the graphic arts. While there, he met his wife Shirley, who coincidentally came from the Big Island of Hawaii. They were married on June 11, 1955 in her home town of Honokaa. When they returned he began his career in the graphic arts.
In 1960 they began their family and moved to a new home in the San Fernando Valley. Meanwhile, Bill had become interested in the fine arts again. His position as an advertising production manger put him in contact with art directors and they would lunch together and then visit various art galleries in the area. He began oil painting again as a hobby.
In 1964 he made an important contact through an associate at his agency. This person was a vice-president at Aaron Brothers Galleries and purchased paintings for them. They had showrooms in various major cities and sold original framed paintings to art galleries and furniture stores. He said they could possibly sell some of his seascapes so Bill began painting in his spare time. Gradually, they sold more than he could produce so Bill made the decision to leave the advertising business and devote his time to painting.
In 1965 the Blackman's moved to Thousand Oaks, California. He began his career as a fine artist and to this day resides in Thousand Oaks. He contracted with Aaron Brothers to be his exclusive agents and began specializing in seascapes. After a few years he added landscapes and some other subjects. Bluebonnet landscapes and Padre Island seascapes were popular in the Dallas showroom.
He and his family vacationed frequently in Hawaii and that became another source of inspiration. There, he was represented by the Davis Gallery in Honolulu. A good relationship with "Barney" Davis continued after the closing of the Aaron Brothers Wholesale Division in 1980. He painted for the Davis Gallery for about 8 years until they closed due to illness. Afterwards, he was contacted by Kobayashi Art Enterprises and has been represented by them.
In 1980 he began teaching in private studios around the country, demonstrating his method of painting various subjects. During the latter part of the 80"s he was approached by Susan Scheewe Publishing to author and illustrate a book showing his way of painting. The first was published in 1990 and he has authored four other books since then. He demontrated six different instructional video tapes that were produced by his artist friend Gary Jenkins. Gary, who was helpful introducing Bill to the teaching business, was also an artist for Aaron Brothers Galleries.
William Blackman is a published artist. Twenty subjects have been lithographed, six being limited editions, when he was with Aaron Brothers. One of his Hawaiian paintings...
