Edwin Hughes was born on 3rd February 1851 in Westminster. He specialized in genre scenes and portraits and lived and worked in the capital for most of his life. Hughes exhibited 11 works at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1880. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Society of British Artists, Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery and the Manchester Art Gallery. He died in Hammersmith in 1915.
