This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tea caddy has an oval form. The surface of the tea caddy is encompassed with bright cut engraved fabric swag designs and floral festoons, suspended from impressive spiralling foliate anchor-points accented with pensile bud designs. Each spiralling motif flanks a shield shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'WM' and surmounted with a ribbon style bow. "Lot of four antique sterling silver souvenir tea spoons – The Montezuma, Las Vegas Hot Springs by Alvin Sterling, Whiting Manufacturing Imperial Queen pattern (introduced 1893) with monogram, Wisconsin Dells, Hornets Nest by Lunt Silversmiths, and Granford engraved Georgian pattern (first produced 1898) by Towle Silversmiths. ""The Alvin Corporation was founded by Wm. H. Jamoneau in 1886 as Alvin Mfg Co in Irvington, New Jersey. The firm changed to Alvin-Beiderhase Co (c. 1893) under the management of Wm. H. Jamoneau, Henry H. Leibe and George B. Beiderhase moving in 1895 to Sag Harbour, Long Island. In 1897 Alvin-Beiderhase Co, maker of Official World Fair souvenir spoons for 1893-94 Chicago Columbian Exposition, was purchased by Joseph Fahys & Co (watch-case manufacturer) operating as a branch until 1910. This antique sterling silver tea caddy retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover surmounted with the original cast sterling silver scroll decorated loop handle/finial. The anterior edge of the cover features a plain rounded thumbpiece. This exceptional example of Victorian silverware retains the original gilded interior.
