Erika Baktay Art

Hungarian

Erika Baktay’s paintings have long been admired by the public in her exhibitions in Budapest, Bolzano, Merano, Verona, Milano, New York, Paris, Grenoble and Dubai. The artist spent several decades in Italy where she still lives and works. The figurative paintings from her first period show the inspiration that she got by studying the works of the great Italian masters and the effect of the art of the middle Ages. This can be the reason why Baktay often used wood or handmade paper instead of canvas. Baktay’s works of art are excellent documents of the outstanding achievements of a sensitive artist.

Eucalyptus Trees, Sunset Coastal Landscape Watercolor by Kipp Stewart
Located in Soquel, CA
"Shoreline", Modern Coastal Landscape Eucalyptus Trees, Sunset Coastal Landscape Watercolor by Kipp Stewart (American, b. 1928), late 20th century. This vivid scene uses a soft and dreamy polychromatic palette of golden rod yellow, subdued purple, and dark green. Acrylic on natural edge paper. Signed in the lower right, "Stewart". Tag on verso with title ("Shoreline"), artist's name, size, and materials. Presented in a light wood frame, mounted on a white background. Image size: 12.75"H x 17.5"W. Paper size: 23"H x 30"W. Framed size: 30.5"H x 38"W x 1.25"D. Kipp Stewart (American, b. 1928) is an artist, architect, and designer from Pennsylvania. Known to furniture obsessives for the Declaration series he codesigned for North Carolina’s Drexel Furniture, Stewart is most commonly associated with mid-century design movements of his adopted home state of California. There, in 1972, Stewart designed the Ventana Big Sur, a luxury resort near Montecito for which he oversaw architecture, planning, furniture and interior design across 160 acres of land. By the time Stewart spearheaded the Ventana, he was already well versed in furniture design. After briefly serving in the U.S. Navy as a teenager, Stewart enrolled at the Chouinard Art Institute (present-day Cal Arts) in Los Angeles. By the time he graduated, he was steeped in the world of modern seating design, experimenting with new chair models that bridged form and function. Charles and Ray Eames were important influences on his early work, which included a chrome-framed lounge chair whose reclined shape bears a striking resemblance to the Eames iconic lounge. In the late 1950s, Stewart partnered with another West Coast furniture designer, Stewart MacDougall, on a line of modern furniture for Drexel. (The pair were also producing case pieces and more for Glenn of California.) Drexel soon unveiled Stewart and McDougall’s Declaration line, which was constructed entirely of natural walnut and featured the choice of white porcelain or brass drawer pulls and cabinet door handles...

"In Search of Cords" Red Hieroglyph Inspired Painting
By Ross Wetzel
Located in Houston, TX
Red painted slab with hieroglyph inspired shapes. The work is framed in a silver frame with a red matte and a white background. The work is signed by the artist. The slab sits off the matte. Artist Biography: Ross Wetzel, a Hilton Head resident, was a remarkable and pioneering artist. His work as an animator for Disney during it's "Golden Era," his successes in using animation in the advertising world, and his masterful work in watercolor and serigraphy mark him indelibly among the ranks of important American artists. Ross was born March 11, 1917 in Chicago, IL. By the age of 6 he demonstrated a talent and passion for art. He was an avid art student through high school, and enrolled with his future wife and artist, Janice, at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In 1938, after the success of Snow White, Disney needed more animators to work on their next project, Pinocchio. They put out advertisements in newspapers across the country to search for talent. Ross sent in his tryout brochure and was one of the few applications approved to have a full tryout for Disney in Los Angeles. He was subsequently hired and enrolled in Disney's rigorous animator's training program. His first assignment upon completing the program was in Disney's comic strip department, working on the Mickey Mouse comic strip. He was then moved into the animation department as first assistant to animator Ollie Johnston, one of Disney's famous "9 Old Men." He worked as Ollie's clean up man on Pinocchio. He went on to work on Fantasia, helping pen the flying horses, and on Bambi, under Eric Larson, also one of the "9 Old Men." Ross left Disney in 1941 for a job offer from King Features Syndicate to work on the Felix the Cat comic strip. Ross married Janice May Johnson on March 11, 1941, and they moved back to Chicago. He was chosen to be the artist to create Northern Tissue's advertising campaign. However, that same year, he was drafted into The First Motion Picture Unit of the Army Air Corp, which was the first military unit in history to be made entirely of film professionals. He worked with such movie stars as Clark Gable and Alan Ladd, and his commanding officer was a young Ronald Reagan. He worked on storyboards and backgrounds for the Air Corp's training films for fighter pilots and bombers. These animated films were critical for pilot training as the technology for creating live action film versions of the training films wasn't possible at the time. He was released from the military in 1946, and returned to his work with Northern Tissue, eventually creating their first television commercial, which featured "Fluffy the Northern Cub." Ross recognized the need for animation in television advertisement, and created a commercial art studio called "the Cartoonists" in 1947. They created animated commercials and print advertisements for companies such as Kellogg's, Kleenex, and Continental Airlines featuring such characters as Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam. Ross was also hired to illustrate one of the first renderings of Smokey the Bear...

Untitled (abstract 17)
By Andrea Stajan-Ferkul
Located in Mississauga, Ontario
Contemporary abstract painting. The use of Stajan-Ferkul's distinct neutral palette is carried through into her abstract paintings where emphasis is put on simplifying the composition. Textures and patterns play a large role in her minimal yet powerful work. // Andrea Stajan-Ferkul is a Canadian artist whose work conveys a sense of experimentation through the use of paint, fabric collage and abstract mark-making. While not exclusive to fashion, dresses have been a compositional focus throughout her oeuvre. With an emphasis on timelessness, her series of dress paintings shift between realistic representation and interpretive impressions. In contrast, her series of abstract works embrace minimalism, considerate to a restrained palette and composition. Stajan-Ferkul began her career in fashion advertising before shifting her focus to fine art in 2000. Her work has been exhibited widely through galleries and art fairs, and hangs in private and public collections across Canada, US and Europe. A graduate of Sheridan College of Art and Design, Andrea's paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections, her work has been published in magazines and book covers, and prints are distributed internationally. In 2009, Stajan-Ferkul was invited to exhibit her work in Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, hosted by (then) Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean. keywords: abstract, minimal art, minimalism, grey, pink, modern art...
