Reynier Llanes is a Cuban born contemporary painter recognized for richly detailed narrative works shaped by memory, folklore, and a magical realist sensibility. He trained in Pinar del Río, later moving to Havana before emigrating to the United States, where his practice continued to evolve through sustained attention to craft, symbolism, and storytelling.
Across his broader body of work, Llanes often builds dreamlike environments where nature and daily life take on allegorical roles, reflecting on identity, belief, and belonging. He is also known for incorporating Cuban espresso coffee in works on paper, a material choice that deepens the connection between medium, cultural memory, and lived experience, while reinforcing his ongoing interest in how personal history can be carried through image and narrative.
