Beautiful example of the Hudson River School romantic bucolic New York autumn landscape with cows foraging. Illegible artist signature on stretcher bar (See enhanced images). Condition: very good; professionally cleaned and minor restoration upper right hand corner where paint was missing. Unframed. Image size: 14"H x 24"W x .75"D Hudson River School was an informal association was America's first so-called school of painting and the dominant landscape style until the Civil War. The name derives from a group of 19th-century landscape painters working in New York state. With realistic composition, they depicted romantic views of unsettled areas of the Hudson River Valley especially lakes, rocky gorges, and forests in the Catskill Mountains. About a fourth of these artists utilized luminism or effects with special lighting techniques to convey lofty emotions through contrasts of light and dark. Included in this Hudson River luminist category were Washington Allston, Albert Bierstadt, William Hart, and Frederic Edwin Church...

Antique oil painting, Boy Fleaing a Dog, Gerard ter Borch, Dutch golden age

Located in DEVENTER, NL

Gerard ter Borch (II) (1617-1681), copy after, around 1700 'Boy Fleas a Dog' Oil on canvas Professionally restored (cleaned and relined) In modern frame in 17th century style Dimensions excl. frame: 33 x 27,5 cm. Dimensions incl. frame: approx. 50 x 45,5 cm. Depcited is a boy busy fleaing a dog. The boy sits on a chair with the dog on his lap. On a table on the right there is a book and a pen. On a wooden bench lies the boy's hat. What is unique about this painting by Ter Borch, is the relationship that is depicted between human and animal. Mostly animals like dogs where depicted as an attribute in paintings in the 17th century, and sometimes used to symbolize certain character traits. This boy is lovingly caring for his dog, which he is giving his full attention. Another interesting detail is that Ter Borch's brother Moses, was probably the model for this painting. Ter borch often used family members as models for his paintings. Moses was also a very talented painter and draughtsman. Several copies of this work by Ter Borch are known. One of these copies is in the collection of the Dutch Rijksmuseum (Image included in the image gallery (last image)). The original painting is in the collection of the Alte Pinakothek museum in Munich, Germany. Gerard ter Borch, also known as Gerard Terburg, was a Dutch genre painter who lived in the Dutch Golden Age. He influenced fellow Dutch painters Gabriel Metsu...

George Wright (1860–1942) Fox Hunting Scene Oil on canvas, signed lower left Circa 1920 Presented in a newly made, hand-carved Watts-style frame A spirited and richly atmospheric example of English sporting art by George Wright, one of the foremost British equestrian painters of the early 20th century. This oil on canvas captures the thrilling energy of a mounted fox hunt as riders in scarlet coats gallop across an open countryside, accompanied by a lively pack of hounds coursing through a stream. Wright’s deft brushwork and ability to render movement and musculature make his work particularly admired among collectors of sporting and animal art. The moody sky and brisk terrain contribute to a sense of action unfolding in real time—a hallmark of Wright’s dynamic compositions. Signed lower left, the painting is framed in a superb hand-crafted Watts-style frame, lending an additional sense of classical elegance and elevating its visual presence. George Wright’s works are held in private collections and continue to be exhibited by specialists in British sporting painting...
