Gladys Hart was born in Watsonville, California. She was affectionately known as Pookie. Hart attended Watsonville local school, went to Hartnell College and returned to school in the late 1960s, first at Cabrillo College, then at San Jose State. Hart was an accomplished oil painter and quilter.
