Breathless Civilization - Mixed Media Assemblage on Canvas

"Breathless Civilization" In this work, I explore the fragility of human systems—the moment when the line between protection and vulnerability begins to dissolve. Gas masks, once symbols of survival, become artifacts here. They no longer protect; instead, they carry the memory of fear and the instinct to endure. I intentionally build a tense, almost fractured surface—through aggressive drips, layered textures, and broken, gestural marks. For me, this is a visual language of urban decay and emotional residue, traces of what remains after overload, anxiety, and loss of control. The fragmented elements within the composition are not just formal—they reflect a world where survival has become automatic, stripped of human presence. I’m interested in that shift—from conscious existence to something mechanical. This work does not follow a direct narrative. I see it as an artifact—a trace of a civilization that adapted too late. Air, in this piece, is not only a physical necessity but also a metaphor for freedom—something increasingly restricted, filtered, and controlled. By merging painting with object, I intentionally blur the boundaries between mediums, reinforcing the central tension of the work: protection and vulnerability, presence and disappearance." Artist Irena Orlov. This original mixed media assemblage, measuring H34" x W57", masterfully incorporates various dimensional elements and techniques, including painting and found objects, to create a captivating abstract piece with a profound global message. Medium and Materials: This extraordinary artwork is a mixed media assemblage on fine art canvas, skillfully hand-stretched over 1" deep wood stretched bars. The artist's creative vision weaves together an intriguing combination of materials, including plastic, original World War 2 chemical gas masks, copper mesh, and small metal round container...

Birth of an Idea In this work, I explore the moment when something intangible begins to take shape—when an idea moves from feeling into form. I’m interested in that transition point, where clarity hasn’t fully arrived yet, but energy is already present and undeniable. The composition is built through movement—fluid, overlapping gestures that collide and dissolve into one another. Color becomes the primary language here: warm, saturated reds and corals carry intensity and urgency, while cooler tones create space, balance, and breath. For me, this piece is not about a fixed image, but about emergence. The forms remain open, shifting, almost resisting definition, as if they are still in the process of becoming. There is a tension between control and spontaneity—between intention and instinct. I allow the painting to evolve organically, responding to its own rhythm, much like an idea that reveals itself gradually rather than all at once. “Birth of an Idea” is about that first spark—the moment before structure, before logic—when creation exists purely as energy, possibility, and motion. This is one of the first pieces from which the series began. Red Blue Abstract Colorful Acrylic Painting on Canvas ( Rolled) , Birth of an Idea SPECIFICATIONS: - Artist-grade canvas. Extraordinary versatile in her mediums, Irena could never imagine life without art. She is an artist whose path in the fine arts has led her to a unique expression of mood and color. The combination of antique and a very clean, crisp modern design sense creates a highly prized, individual art style. Her images begin spontaneously and give expression to personal creativity and insight. Each piece is unique in design. Irena often prefers to think of herself as a craftsman, constructing, or interpreting imagery and messages from her conscious and subconscious mind. Irena Ukrainian born lives and works in Los Angeles. STATEMENT I've been drawn by the magical beauty behind fine arts and design since childhood. Having a successful carrier in architecture and design for quite a long time, I began to deal with fine art. I began to look for new ways to express my emotions and feelings. The process of creating art gave me what I wanted - endless ways of expressing myself. During the creating process, I don't limit myself to a specific style or medium therefore my art is mostly represents mixed media. My creating process is based on my emotions and my mood. I'm very spontaneous. Today I might use photography to convey my feelings...tomorrow I might paint to express myself. My work is infused with spirit and energy I felt at the moment I created it. It encourages viewers to interpret it their own way. My art evokes different feelings in the audience depending on their individual experiences and memories. I was and continue to be inspired by the beauty of the world around me and can spent hours to explore it. The rapid world at which is everything changed so fast, I discovered that I will never live in quite the same world. Life unfolds only in moments. Capturing moments that are full of emotion is the key to my art.
