Ridgway J. Victorian Ironstone Ceramic Dessert Plate Set
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects.
Particular and rare dessert service; it consists of 11 dessert plates and two small cookie trays with openwork handles; at the center of all plates on a white background, enclosed by a shaped frame, are hand-painted graceful and delicate compositions of multicolored flowers, each one different from the other; the frame is surrounded by a mint green background where there are other flowers and decorations in pure gold; also all the edges of the plates are enriched with elaborate gold decorations. They were made in ironstone pottery in 1841 at Caudon Place in Staffordshire (England) by the famous firm J. Ridgway. The objects bear the mark of the "Royal Arms", the English royal coat of arms, used since 1837 in many British manufactures, in particular, the one impressed on our objects was registered by the Ridgway Company in September 1841; there is also, the writing 5505, hand-painted, which indicates the number of the pattern. The Ridgway family was one of Staffordshire's most important pottery-making dynasties; Ridgway ironstone...
