Jean Carolus Furniture
Belgian, 1814-1897
Very little is known about Belgian artist Jean Carolus, other than he was an academic genre painter who was active in France from about 1855 to 1880, and was noted for his interior scenes from the 18th century. Carlous’s works evince an academic finish and are usually sentimental subjects of women, either in groups enjoying tea or a music recital, or alone in romantic reverie.
