This poetic original advertising poster created around 1980 by celebrated Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon was commissioned for the renowned French publishing house Larousse, one of the world's most respected encyclopedic and educational publishers. Using his unmistakable visual language of floating figures, open skies and dreamlike landscapes, Folon transforms a commercial commission into an image of remarkable elegance and imagination. Against a radiant gradient of warm reds and oranges, a procession of airborne figures releases pages that descend gently toward an outstretched hand supporting a miniature city of books and knowledge. The metaphor is beautifully simple and profoundly effective: ideas travel through the air, knowledge circulates freely, and books become the foundation upon which civilization itself is built. The flying figures evoke both migration and transmission, while the scattered pages symbolize the movement of information across generations and cultures.
