Jogen Chowdhury - Untitled, 14 x 11 inches ( Unframed Size ) Ink with Brush & Dry Pastel on Paper, 2014 Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised - the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. About the Artist & his works : Born : 1939 in Daharpara Village, Faridpur, Bangladesh. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. Family Background: His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury's father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Education: 1955-60: Studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata. 1965 : He went to paris to study in Ecole des Beaux Arts, in William Hayter’s Atelier 17. Professional Experience: 1968-72 : He worked as an Art-Designer, Madras Handloom Board, Madras. 1970 : A collection of his poems were published, titled 'Hridoy Train Beje Othey'. 1987 : Joined Kala Bhavan , Santiniketan as a professor of painting. Jogen Chowdhury Untitled, Figurative, Ink & Pastel on Paper 5 x 6.5 inches , 2003 Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. Located in Ibadan, Oyo

In "Moment of Reflections," Olatunbosun transports the audience into a world of contemplation and self-discovery. The centerpiece of the artwork is a young man seated in a casual, relaxed manner. His pose conveys a sense of tranquility as if he has found solace in the moments of quiet contemplation. The attention to detail in the artwork is striking, with intricate brushwork bringing out the textures of the subject's clothing and the surrounding environment. The setting of the artwork is deliberately minimalistic, allowing the viewer to focus entirely on the young man's expression and demeanor. The background is a subtle blend of soft colors, suggesting an ethereal space where thoughts roam freely. This simplicity further accentuates the theme of reflection, as the absence of distractions allows viewers to immerse themselves in their own thoughts while contemplating the emotions conveyed by the subject. Olatunbosun's "Moment of Reflections" is a remarkable piece that resonates deeply with viewers from all walks of life. The young man's expression exudes a sense of inner peace, prompting viewers to ponder their own life experiences and contemplate the paths they have taken. This introspective quality of the artwork creates an intimate connection between the audience and the subject, allowing for a deeply personal and emotional experience. The painting's title, "Moment of Reflections," is deliberately chosen to reinforce the idea of taking a moment for self-exploration and soul-searching. In the hustle and bustle of modern life, we often overlook the importance of pausing and reflecting on our journey. Olatunbosun's artwork serves as a gentle reminder to find time for introspection and to appreciate the beauty in moments of quietude. What makes "Moment of Reflections" even more extraordinary is its ability to transcend cultural boundaries. The emotions depicted in the artwork are universal, touching the core of human experiences. Whether the viewer is from the artist's homeland or halfway across the world, the profound message remains relevant – we all share moments of contemplation and self-discovery in our lives. In conclusion, Samson Olatunbosun's "Moment of Reflections" is a timeless masterpiece that captures the human spirit with its simplicity and emotional depth. Through his brilliant artistic skill, Olatunbosun creates an atmosphere of introspection, inviting viewers to engage in their own moments of contemplation and self-discovery. This extraordinary artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the power of art to connect us all through our shared humanity and emotions. As we gaze upon the young man seated in a relaxed manner, we are reminded to embrace the beauty of silence, to reflect on our past, and to seek meaning in the present – a truly profound and impactful journey offered by the artistic genius of Samson Olatunbosun. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. He graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata and subsequently at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris in 1967. He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolour and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. He shot to fame once his works were collected by Mr. Masanori Fukusuma , the director of the Glenbarra Art Museum . This particular "reclining woman" is a typical style of the master artist. This work is a complete collectors joy, a Dry Pastel on Paper . ( 19 x 28.5 inches Unframed ) Kneeling Man takes a fresh look at tradition and Modernism, drawing freely upon ideas and values from native sources, solely guided by their need for self expression. This determined not only how they would paint but also what they would paint. A core subject in around which he would organise the perception of the world within and without. The Kneeling Man is a perfect example of Chowdhury's mastery of lines and to make the curves depict the character of his figures. By careful distortion of the form he imparts the air of caricature in his figures, figures of men and women...
