John Morfis Figurative Paintings

American, b. 1976

John Morfis was born in Glen Cove, Long Island, in 1976. His humble beginnings made pursuing a career in art difficult and paradoxically necessary. Fixated on making things aesthetically pleasing, Morfis made an extreme departure from his family life when he chose to base his life on art. Surrounded by mechanics, welders and otherwise trade workers, Morfis had a tough time expressing his interest in a world much more utilitarian and much less expressive and impractical. With an extraordinary desire to be an artist and a grant awarded, Morfis was able to earn a bachelor of fine arts with a concentration in painting from the University of Hartford in 1998. While there John studied oil painting under American realist Stephen Brown. His first solo show took place in 2007 at the Ellen Traut Collection in Hartford, Connecticut and was a near-sellout. Since then John has had success up and down the northeastern coast of the United States working with various galleries and collectors. His work has also appeared in various group shows at the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut.

JP Marsman Without Borders I Oilpainting on linen 140 x 120 cm ( the painting is framed in a wooden black frame (see pictures) With the frame the size is 145 x 130 cm JP Marsman's cheerful and hyper-realistic paintings appeal to the imagination on several levels. In the last two years his paintings became more and more popular and are worldwide in several collections. Artisan; the work is painted so realistically that everything seems 'touchable'. It seems to be 'there'... Color; the artist isn't afraid to go wild with color. This gives the still lifes a liveliness that is unique for 'still lifes'. Combinations; the subjects that Jean Paul Marsman...

Red and White Buoy
By John Morfis
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
“Red and White Buoy” is one of the largest canvases Morfis has ever painted. On a plain grey background, an old buoy hangs from a looped rope, caught on a nail. The larger the scale, the more closely we get to inspect Morfis’ painterly details in these relatively hyper-real paintings. One could only imagine the difficulty involved in capturing the effect of wood splitting via oil paint. Red and white paint flakes away revealing the natural woodgrain underneath on this antique sailing...
