Extra-Large Dutch Contemporary Abstract Portrait By Hans Bouman
Located in Frederiksberg C, DK
An exquisite contemporary painting by Dutch artist, Hans Bouman. In this painting Bouman creates a captivating interplay of colors and forms that gives rise to an enigmatic abstract face that invites interpretation and contemplation. This captivating large-scale abstract painting is a harmonious blend of warm white, earthy tones, invigorating orange, and calming blue hues. Hans Bouman, born in the Netherlands in 1951, embarked on his artistic journey at the Amsterdam Graphic School and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts. During the early 1980s, Paris became his haven of inspiration, where his debut in galleries marked the onset of an international presence that continues to flourish. Bouman's artistic evolution is characterized by cycles of creativity, but it is his larger-than-life hieratic heads that he is renown for. These remarkable pieces pay homage to influences as diverse as the Moai sculptures of Easter Island, the intricate masks of Africa...

Everything is Early (Colorful Autumn colors Large Abstract Oil painting, Nature)
By Richmond Burton
Located in Cody, WY
Richmond Burton’s works are known for their kaleidoscopic color, undulating patterns, and lyrical handling of expressionistic mark making. His Visceral, seductive, and organic compositions play with decorative patterning without compromising a conceptual backbone. Their intensity of vision allows for transcendent thought, experience, and connection while challenging any preconceived norms or rules defining abstract painting. “Structure is never absent; it’s just uninsistent, even accidental. The paintings are built up in stages, but never give the impression of being hard-worked. They have a fluid, textural presence, like luxury fabrics printed with overlapping, off-register layers of patterning.” — Holland Cotter, The New York Times (1999). Richmond Burton (b. 1960, Talladega, AL) obtained a BA in architecture from Rice University Houston, TX (1984). He lives and works in Woodstock, NY. Burton has shown extensively both domestically and internationally and has work in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; The Broad, Los Angeles, CA; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; Fogg Museum at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, NY; and National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, among others. Recent solo exhibitions include venues such as Sarah Moody Gallery of Art at University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL (2015); Silas Marder Gallery, Bridgehampton, NY (2014); Philip Slein Gallery, St. Louis, MO (2013); and George Lawson...

Joseph Stella is known for his work as an artist. He was a visionary artist who painted what he saw: an idiosyncratic and individual experience of his time and place. Stella was 19 when he arrived in the United States and studied in the early years of the century at the Art Students League and with William Merritt Chase, under whose tutelage he received rigorous training as a draftsman. His love of line and his mastery of its techniques are apparent in his early illustrations for various social reform journals. Stella, whose later work as a colorist is breathtakingly lush, never felt obliged to choose between line and color. He drew throughout his career, and unlike other modernists, whose work evolved to more and more abstract forms, Stella freely reverted to earlier realist modes of representation whenever it suited him. Some of his most famous works include Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras; The Brooklyn Bridge: Variation on an Old Theme and Flowers, Italy. Shop a selection of Joseph Stella art on 1stDibs.

Joseph Paxton was famous for his achievements in art and design. He was a talented Victorian garden designer and architect. For London’s Exposition of 1851, Paxton created the Crystal Palace, an immense iron and glass structure. It was a showcase of Victorian innovation and design and earned its creator a knighthood. Paxton also created his own Lily House at Chatsworth, where he displayed his prized water lilies. Explore a selection of fine art on 1stDibs.

Opinions differ about what kind of artist Joseph Stella was. At various times, his work echoed the concerns and techniques of the so-called Ashcan School, New York Dada, Futurism and Cubism, among others. These are all legitimate influences, but Stella never totally committed himself to any group. Some people also associate him with the American Precisionist movement, which emerged after World War I and explored industrialization and urbanization themes. Joseph Stella first painted the Brooklyn Bridge in 1918. He actually returned to the subject numerous times, completing additional paintings of the landmark in 1918, 1920, 1939 and 1941. Examining these paintings side by side shows how Stella's style became more and more abstract over the course of his career. Explore an assortment of Joseph Stella art on 1stDibs.
