JM Henderson is Glaswegian, born in Glasgow and died in Glasgow. He grew up in a family of artists. Two brothers and his father Joseph Henderson were all known artists of the period.
Henderson studied art in the Glasgow School of Art, and graduated from Glasgow University.
Henderson excelled in Scottish landscapes, many in the softer colors of the countryside, rivers, seascapes and lochs. In contrast to the mountainous Highlands he found exceptional beauty in local scenery, farms, waters, and figures in the rural landscape.
'The River, October' is in oil paint on canvas, clearly signed lower right. It is presented in the likely original period gilded frame in good condition. The painting is in very fine condition with no noted faults or past restoration. The colors and brushstrokes are clear and distinct.
Collected by Saltire Gallerie, 'The River, October' was imported from Scotland to the USA. It is now ready for your very special place!
Henderson was closely connected with the Glasgow Art Club, and was a member of the Committee of Management of the Paisley Art...
