Karina Gentinetta Art

American

Like many creatives, Karina Gentinetta’s road to success wasn’t a straight line. Before she became a prolific abstract painter of mesmerizing, charged works in acrylics, pencil, oil pastels and charcoal, she was a lawyer.

Born in Buenos Aires, Gentinetta and her siblings fled with her parents during Argentina’s Dirty War, when thousands of people were killed or forcibly disappeared by the government. The Gentinettas arrived in New Orleans, where Karina later graduated from Tulane University Law School. She initially wanted to major in art, but her cautionary parents — her father drove a taxi in New Orleans — urged their bright daughter to study something more practical.

She practiced law for 13 years before Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, destroying her and her husband’s home. Gentinetta found herself at a fork in the road: law or art? She chose the latter. She also began to nurture her interest in the beauty of vintage objects and how they could be reborn, opening a shop for antique furniture. Some of her earliest paintings were made to complement her antique presentations.

Inspired by artists like Cy Twombly and Franz Kline, Gentinetta’s abstract paintings — typically pale canvases with calculated bursts of color — are emotional. Others bear a more stark palette of black and white with intense and sometimes graphic strokes. Gentinetta often uses materials that one might find at a construction site, like wall plaster and house paint, symbolically and tactilely responding to how her city was wrecked but has endured. Her collectors have included Courtney Love Cobain, and in 2016 she collaborated with RH Modern on a limited-edition series. Gentinetta’s work tells a unique story that does not end after a glance.

Archipelago (Abstract Contemporary Painting, Framed)
By G. Campbell Lyman
Located in New Orleans, LA
(Comes professionally framed in a solid maple floater frame, ready to hang) Artist's Statement "This series of intensely colorful paintings was begun a couple of years back in reaction to the gray oppressive weight that had descended like a pall on the American scene. I wanted to make paintings about nothing but pure delight, in honor of the fact that beneath the fog of germs and political antagonism, we still eat, laugh, love and if we're wise, acknowledge how spectacularly fortunate we are -- at least for now, in this time and place, despite the problems. For me, the colors, forms and brushstrokes here feel exuberant without suggesting an unnerving chaos. I have purposely used unlikely color combinations that despite their dissonance seem to work together. I don't feel this is a time to be making brooding works that reflect the problems we are working our way through; we all know about this. On the contrary, I think it's a time for art...

Spain - large original abstract painting - ready to hang
By Bruce Rubenstein
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The large scale paintings of Bruce Rubenstein merge the creative attitudes of the two distinct art hot spots of New York and Los Angeles. Rubenstein's work has a rigid edge and strong composition, but maintains organic shapes and soft colors as well. His works have character that brightens a space. His paintings pull from abstract expressionism and cubism, but maintain a contemporary edge that strikes the viewer. His work seems collectively new and timeless at once. This large one-of-a-kind 39 inch high by 57 inch wide and 1 inch deep artwork is a mixed media composition layered with acrylic paint, oil pastel, and charcoal on canvas. It is stretched, wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted as a continuation of the artwork, eliminating the need for framing and creating a cohesive, finished look. It is signed by the artist on the front and back of the artwork. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Bruce Rubenstein specializes in large-scale artworks, using huge canvases to tell his stories. Born and raised in New York, he moved to Los Angeles in 1985. His mixed media artworks defy categorization, blending abstract forms and organic shapes with subtle hints of figures and symbols. Adrien Brody and Mickey Rourke are among Rubenstein’s collectors. Bruce Rubenstein’s artistic influences include artists from Joan Miró and Jean Arp to Gerhard Richter and Pablo Picasso. “He is an artist, and that means someone who cannot restrain the flow of ideas,” says author David Rodgers. “He is someone who they just burst out of, who cannot help but communicate, and who sees no reason to stop. He’s a man not limited by media to communicate the stories that he needs to (and must) tell, through any medium he feels necessary.” His works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including exhibitions in Austria and Israel. "La Dolce Vita I" Acrylic, Oil Pastels and Pencils Abstract 60"x48"
By Karina Gentinetta
Located in New York, NY
"La Dolce Vita I" 2023, 60" H x 48" W. Vertical abstract painting consisting of acrylic, pencils, and oil pastels on canvas by Argentine-born artist Karina Gentinetta (featured in Elle Decor, the New York Times, Traditional Home, Veranda Magazine, Luxe Interiors, and most recently in Introspective Magazine). This work is full of energy, color, and childlike innocence. It is bold and spirited and celebrates the beauty of human nature. This work was inspired by Ms. Gentinetta's summer travels to Italy where she experienced the colorful and deep rooted traditions of her ancestral grandparents' home. A vibrant movement in acrylics, pencils and oil pastels in hues of burnt orange, golden yellow, magenta, white, pinks, purple and blue with carbon pencils against a neutral background. Framed in a natural pine wood floater frame. This listing is for "La Dolce Vita I" which can be purchased on its own or with its companion work, "La Dolce Vita II", listed separately. Karina Gentinetta's vast and audacious canvases are inspired by her home city of New Orleans. A litigator for thirteen years, Gentinetta found herself at a crossroads after losing her family home and the majority of her possessions during Hurricane Katrina. Turning to art and design for solace, the self-taught artist was inspired to leave her law practice to pursue her creative passions in the shocking aftermath of the storm. Redolent of the shattered landscape of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Gentinetta’s paintings evoke the broken frames of flooded homes and the city's devastated infrastructure. Downed telephone lines, random piles of debris and condemned buildings are all present in the thick brushstrokes and intrepid lines that mark each canvas. The artist uses materials that are purposely indicative of construction sites, including wall plaster, varnish and house paint acrylics, imbuing the works with both a subjective symbolism and forceful aesthetic. Using a monochromatic color scale, the Stark paintings juxtapose opposing sentiments including vulnerability and strength, chaos and balance. The bold, abstract compositions speak to a multiplicity of themes including grief and despair, but above all celebrate the triumph of rebirth and hope over loss and devastation. Gentinetta’s works have received national and international recognition and have been featured in such publications as The New York Times, Elle Décor, Luxe, Veranda, Traditional Home and More Magazine among others. Most recently, Gentinetta collaborated with RH Modern...

"Deep In Thought I and II" Acrylics, Oil Pastels, Pencils Paintings 19"x15" each
By Karina Gentinetta
Located in New York, NY
This pair of paintings (diptychs) are the original studies for two sold works "Deep In Thought I and II" 2021, which were a pair of large vertical abstract paintings (diptych) by Argentine-born artist Karina Gentinetta (featured in Elle Decor, the New York Times, Traditional Home, Veranda Magazine, Luxe Interiors and most recently in Introspective Magazine). These studies are the original constructs that inspired the larger versions. Like the larger works, these small paintings consist of acrylic, pencils, and oil pastels on canvas boards. The studies for "Deep In Thought I and II" are coordinating artworks in rich hues of purples, plums, white and black pencil. The works speak of the beautiful boldness and naive fearlessness of youth which is juxtaposed with the age-acquired wisdom and sophistication of adulthood. Together or alone, each painting explodes with energy and passion. Painted in hues of aubergine, plum, purples, magenta, white and black pencil. The actual works (not framed) measure 14" x 10", vertical orientation. These original studies were professionally framed in Italian-made and hand-carved gilded wood frames...
