"Drawbridge", an expressive contemporary abstracted landscape painting by David Fleming (American, 20th Century). The artist uses swirling, painterly brushstrokes in a palette of primary colors; the blue water and sky with yellow accents framed by red urban landmasses on each side, highlighted with touches of green detail work that blends from geometric cityscape into abstraction. Santa Cruz artist David Fleming graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S. in industrial design, and soon went to work for Ford in Detroit as a car stylist. In this series, the artist takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The frescos are from the subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. This exploration of the past and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work. Here Pylant takes particular notice of the flora and fauna which was also present at her then North Carolina studio. This work is framed and measures 14.75h x 14w inches. Carol S.
