Rare 1960s Leonard Paris Printed Silk Jersey Emerald Faux Fur Duster Maxi Vest
By Leonard
Located in Boca Raton, FL
The Parisian design house Léonard began in 1958 under the creative guidance of Daniel Tribouillard. Focused on innovation, Tribouillard worked with the development of new print technologies to bring freshness to the French fashion scene. In 1968, Léonard released its first silk jersey prints under the slogan “The Leonard Dress: 150g of happiness.” While this garment likely weighs over 150 grams, it is due its rare materiality. Faux green fur completely lines the interior and wraps to the front at all openings, resembling a feather boa. Simply cut as a long vest, the main feature is certainly the smartly designed printed silk jersey. The abstract floral pattern hints at art nouveau while working within the color palette and pattern scale of modern late 60s dress. Earthy greens dazzle against the bright orange background. The designer’s signature “Léonard Paris” is subtly integrated into the pattern repeat. Tribouillard’s floral patterns have international appeal. The Japanese, who have been arbiters of textile design for centuries, have sought out collaborations for kimono design with Tribouillard. This stylistic version of late 1960s/early 1970s “hippy-chic” is not for the fashionably shy. Size estimate: XS/S/M Measurements: Bust: up to 38 inches Across back: 15 inches waist: waist Up to 30 Hips: up to 38 Length: 60 inches This vintage late 1960s printed vest is in excellent condition, and is a splendid example of high fashion’s adaptation of street style. Hanging open at the front, this classic Léonard printed silk jersey is completely lined with an emerald green faux fur...

Questions About Leonard Coats and Outerwear
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 15, 2024
Yes, Leonard silverplate is real silver, but it is not solid silver. By definition, silverplate is a base metal finished with a thin layer of genuine silver. During the mid-20th century, Leonard Silver Manufacturing became widely known for producing economically priced silverplate pieces inspired by Victorian silverware and tableware. In 1979, the company merged with the Towle Manufacturing Co., and production of Leonard silverplate ceased. Explore a diverse assortment of silver wares on 1stDibs.

Yes, Leonard silver is real silver. However, the Leonard Silver Company electroplated most of its pieces, crafting them from base metal and finishing them with a thin layer of genuine silver. During the 1970s, Towle purchased Leonard Silver and continued to produce silver-plate serving trays and other silver-plated tableware under the brand name through the late 20th century. On 1stDibs, shop a large selection of silver wares.
