This listing is for the unframed photograph. The Robin Rice Gallery proudly announces SUMMERTIME Salon 2019, an annual photography exhibit featuring gallery artists as well as a few newcomers. This year’s opening reception will be held on Wednesday, July 17th from 6pm - 8 PM, the show will be on view until September 22, 2019. Rice has brought together the works of 60 gallery artists and nearly a hundred photographs for this salon-style exhibition. From floor to ceiling, the walls of the gallery are a mosaic of various size photographs in sepia, color and black & white, expertly hung to fit together like pieces of a puzzle. “This is my favorite exhibition even though it takes months to curate and a week to install,” says Rice. “I love the moment when a viewer is first drawn to an image. Sometimes in’s indefinable; a moment when the viewer not only shares but reconnects to an experience remembered.” Each year, the Summertime Salon matures and Rice’s annual masterpiece is revealed to showcase an exhibition stronger than the year before. Rice has a close relationship with the works of her photographers, and strategically curates the show to best exemplify the artists’ strengths, remaining cohesively linked by Rice’s aesthetic. color, water, tropical, swimming, beach, ocean, sun, sunset, sunrise, sky, tropical, waves, swimming, vacation, sea, sunset, golden, wave, surf, Hamptons, East Hampton, Georgica Beach...

"Feels Good" Polar Bear Photograph - Signed and Numbered Limited Edition

By Thomas Mangelsen

Located in Soquel, CA

Signed and numbered limited edition photograph of a polar bear by Thomas Mangelsen (American, b. 1945). Signed "Thomas Mangelsen" in the lower right corner and numbered "794/950" in the lower left corner. This particular image is no longer produced. Presented in a double mat of light grey and tan, in a wood frame. Image size: approx. 21"H x 31"W Renowned American nature and wildlife photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen (American, b. 1945) has traveled throughout the natural world for over 40 years observing and photographing the Earth’s last great wild places. A Nebraska native, Mangelsen’s love of nature, his life outdoors and business success were heavily influenced by his father. An avid sportsman, Harold Mangelsen took his sons to favorite blinds along the Platte River in Nebraska to observe the great flocks of ducks, geese and cranes that migrate through the valley. From these adventures, Mangelsen learned important lessons for photographing in the field, most notably patience and understanding animal behavior. In 1965, Mangelsen began studying business at the University of Nebraska. In 1967, Tom transferred to Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where he changed his major and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Tom continued postgraduate study in zoology and wildlife biology at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. In 1970 Mangelsen moved to Nederland, Colorado. He spent two years living in the Rocky Mountains in an old mining shack without electricity or running water with his English setter, black lab and raccoon. Tom continued to work on his photography and studied arctic alpine ecology at the University of Colorado’s Mountain Research Station near Nederland. There he met Bert Kempers, a CU film producer, who later hired Tom as cinematographer and film editor for his company Westwind Productions, making educational and nature documentaries. Tom longed...

Questions About Lisa Kereszi Photography
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 26, 2024
Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo is likely the person who posed for the Mona Lisa. She was the wife of a wealthy Florentine silk merchant. Historians have arrived at this conclusion based largely on the biography of Leonardo da Vinci written by Giorgio Vasari. On 1stDibs, explore a large collection of Old Masters art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertMay 3, 2024
The real story of the Mona Lisa may never be known for certain. However, most art historians believe that Lisa del Giocondo, the wife of a silk merchant from Florence, posed for the painting. Biographies of Leonardo da Vinci and other historical documents from the Italian Renaissance suggest that the del Giocondos commissioned the work to hang in their new home and to mark the occasion of the birth of their son. On 1stDibs, find a large selection of fine art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 8, 2024
Leonardo da Vinci actually painted the Mona Lisa. Although works of fiction, including novels and films, have led some people to falsely believe that the work was secretly created by someone else, there is no historical evidence to support this. Interestingly, there is a very similar painting in the collection of the Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain. Called La Gioconda, it was most likely painted by one of da Vinci's apprentices and completed while the master artist worked on the Mona Lisa. On 1stDibs, explore a large collection of fine art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 9, 2024
It is difficult to say for certain how much the Mona Lisa is worth today. Experts estimate that the painting may be worth upwards of $860 million, but unless the painting comes up for auction, it can be difficult to predict how much it could sell for. The masterpiece painted by Leonardo da Vinci has been part of the Louvre's collection since 1797. On 1stDibs, shop a diverse assortment of fine art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 13, 2024
Why the Mona Lisa is called La Gioconda is because of the identity of the woman widely believed to be shown in Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece. Many art historians consider that the portrait depicts Lisa Gherardini, the wife of an Italian merchant named Francesco del Giocondo. In Italian, "La" is the feminine form for the word "the." Changing "Giocondo" to "Giaconda" is a way to make the last name feminine. Put simply, “La Gioconda” means "the wife of Giocondo" and describes who Lisa Gherardini was. Explore a wide variety of fine art on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertJanuary 27, 2025
The museum in Paris that has one of the richest collections of paintings, including the famous Mona Lisa, is the Louvre. Established in 1793, the museum has displayed fine works of art for over 200 years. Each year, more than 8.7 million people visit the Louvre. Its collections include more than 35,000 paintings, sculptures and other objects. On 1stDibs, shop a large selection of fine art.
