Lucio Ranucci Figurative Paintings

Italian, b. 1925

Lucio Ranucci was born in 1925 in Italy. He began painting as a young man while at boarding school at the age of 22. Not long after his father passed away, Ranucci set out for Latin America seeking personal exploration and adventure. What was to be a brief excursion turned into a 16-year stay that involved immersing himself in the cultures of Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia and Costa Rica. There, he worked as a sailor, photographer and hearse driver. This rich life experience illuminates his paintings. In 1959, during his days as a journalist, Ranucci interviewed key political figures such as Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. In 1963, he came home to Italy to undergo the trial of European art critics. His return entailed a series of successful exhibitions throughout Italy, Germany, France and England. Filled with a passion for life, Ranucci's paintings show an understanding and compassion for people. His work is a testament to human kind's unchanging rituals. What makes Ranucci's work particularly striking is his combination of rich, vibrant colors with cylindrical forms set against soft curves. The complementary shapes provide a harmony throughout each painting, giving us a warm sense of the people's lives he depicts. Unlike most visual artists, Ranucci is also a writer and a journalist and has worked extensively in the theater. He has written three books, and has had five books published about his work as a painter. He is internationally renowned and collected worldwide, and has been commissioned to paint murals, among them, a panel for the International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. Today at his advanced age, Ranucci continues his life-long passion for painting.

"Winter" American Modernism WPA Regionalism Landscape Mid-Century Magic Realism. 30 x 40 inches. Oil on canvas, c. 1960s, Signed lower right. As we list the painting now, the work is currently being cleaned, restored and a hand carved frame is being built. Additional photos will be uploaded as soon as possible. Our gallery, Helicline Fine Art, just launched our new digital exhibition: American Art: The WPA and Beyond. Three dozen paintings, works on paper and sculptures which are available here on 1stDibs. In person viewings can be arranged by appointment at our midtown Manhattan gallery. Provenance: "Winter" was originally purchased by Stanley Byer. Mr. Byer owned homes in Key West, New York City, and Washington, D.C. He purchased the painting from Dunning Auction in 1984 in Elgin, Illinois. Mr. Byer was related to Abraham Weiss from Florida. Saul Babbin, now deceased was a cousin of Mr. Weiss. I purchased the painting from Joy Babbin, Mr. Babbin's wife, now living in from New Mexico. Dale Nichols (1905 – 1995) Artist, printmaker, illustrator, watercolorist, designer, writer and lecturer, Nichols did paintings that reflected his rural background of Nebraska where he was born in David City, a small town. Although he did much sketching outdoors, most of his paintings were completed in his studio and often included "numerology, magic squares...

Impressionist Mediterranean Harbor Painting Port de la Selva Costa Brava Fishing Boats Oil Canvas Artist: Lazarotti Title: Port de la Selva Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 60 × 73 cm (23.6 × 28.7 in) Signature: Signed lower right Inscription: Titled on reverse Frame: Unframed Condition: Very good condition. Stable paint surface with original impasto visible Origin: Spain Atmospheric Mediterranean harbor scene depicting Port de la Selva on the Costa Brava, one of the most picturesque fishing villages in northeastern Spain near Cap de Creus. The composition presents a lively shoreline animated by traditional fishing boats resting along the beach and floating gently across reflective harbor waters. Whitewashed architecture rises against the mountainous backdrop, creating a luminous contrast with the turquoise sea and expansive sky. Executed with confident impressionist brushwork, the painting captures shifting reflections and coastal light through layered strokes of blue, rose, ochre and soft green tonal transitions. The surface retains visible impasto that enhances depth and movement across the water. Mediterranean harbor paintings of this type are especially sought after for their decorative clarity, collector accessibility and strong interior presence, particularly within coastal and modern European painting collections. The inscription “Port de la Selva” on the reverse confirms the exact Catalan location represented. This work belongs to the Mediterranean impressionist...
