"Zero in Water" Japanese Woodblock Print, 6/30, by Reika Iwami, 1970 "Zero in Water" shown here, several of Iwami's signature compositional elements are present. There are the prominent driftwood forms and the large circle, along with a gold-leaf wave pattern, granular textures, and an intense black background, all combining to enhance the impact of the design. Reika Iwami creates her rhythmical fluid world using natural wood grain patterns, glittering metallic leafs and mica. Titled, numbered, and signed along the bottom edge: "6/30 水の中の零 Reika Iwami '70" Presented in a cream linen mat with foam core backing. Mat size: 34.75"H x 24.75"W Paper size: 34.25"H x 23.13"W Iwami Reika (岩見禮花) was born in Tokyo in 1927, but lived in Kyushu for five years and later in Kanagawa. From the age of 23 she worked for 13 years as an office employee at the Athenee Français language institute, while also studying doll-making and prints at the Sunday course of Japan's first co-educational school, the vocational Bunka Gakuin (文化学院), from which she graduated in 1955. Iwami also studied at other workshops, including an eleven-year apprenticeship as a doll-maker with the female painter-turned-dollmaker Hori Ryûjo (堀柳女 1897-1984, born Yamada Matsue). Iwami finally devoted herself to printmaking beginning in 1954. She began as an apprentice with Hori Ryujo, a doll maker. Later she was influenced by sosaku hanga artists like Koshiro Onchi and Junichiro Sekino. Iwami cited the influence of Onchi Kôshirô...

Memento
By Kerry James Marshall
Located in New York, NY
Kerry James Marshall Memento, 1997 6-Color lithograph with gold powder on soft white Somerset paper with deckled edges Pencil signed, titled and numbered 6/33 on the front This is an excellent impression of a scarce and consequential 1997 Kerry James Marshall graphic work printed by Master Printer Ross Zirkle (1955-2007) at Tamarind Institute, Albuquerque, New Mexico (the publisher). Other examples of this work are in major public institutions such as SFMOMA, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery - which is why Memento is so elusive and rarely found on the market. The present example is elegantly floated and framed in a white wood hand made museum frame with UV Optium Acrylic glazing - the highest quality. Measurements: Framed: 33 inches vertical by 47 inches horizontal by 2 inches Artwork: 30 inches vertical by 44 inches horizontal Bibliography: Pamela Franks and Robert E. Steele, Embodied: Black Identities in American Art from the Yale University Art Gallery, exh. cat. (New Haven, Conn.: Yale University Art Gallery, 2010), 62, ill. Text from the Yale University Art Gallery website: Kerry James Marshall’s Memento memorializes the persons associated with the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. The work depicts multiple headshots of civic leaders and other individuals who died during this era, such as Medger Evers and members of the Black Panther Party...

The image endeavours to celebrate the noble presence and elegant sway of the ubiquitous palm tree. The palm tree has many symbolic meanings and in this image I have tried to highlight its association with immortality and regeneration with the addition of gold leaf." - Valda Bailey...

Truth - the honesty seed, Print on Glass, hand gilded with Lemon and Moon Gold
Located in London, GB
Truth, 2017 Print on Museum Glass, Hand gilded with Lemon and Moon Gold 31 x 31 cm/ 12.2 x 12.2 in (custom framed) Edition of 5 This print is from a series of images made from a collection of honesty seeds gathered at the end of baking hot summer... The papery enclosures are like parchment through which the light filters with a pale gold delicacy." The beauty of the pieces printed on glass are truly revealed when seen in the flesh, which shimmer in the daylight and change constantly as different light sources are reflected off the print. "My fascination with colour goes back a long way. One of my earliest creative recollections has me sitting at a table endlessly mixing paints in a valiant but ultimately futile attempt to 'invent a new colour'. It was an imperative that kept me occupied for some time as I recall. The result was always the same - and unedifying fudge of pale peach and silver." - Valda Bailey...
