Hugué, Manolo (Barcelona, 1872 - Caldes de Montbui, Barcelona, 1945).
Manuel Martinez Hugué, Manolo Hugué, trained at the School of the Lonja de Barcelona. Assiduous participant of the gatherings of "Els Quatre Gats" befriended Picasso, Rusiñol, Mir and Nonell. In 1900 he moved to Paris, where he lived for ten years. He resumed his relationship with Picasso, and befriended other leading theorists as were Apollinaire, Modigliani, Braque and Derain. In the French capital works on the design of jewelry and small sculptures, influenced by the work of his friend, the sculptor and goldsmith Paco Durrio. In 1892 performed work Torcuato Tasso decorating for the holidays the centenary of the discovery of America. Between 1910 and 1917, entirely devoted to sculpture, works in Ceret, where he brought together a diverse group of artists among which were Juan Gris, Joaquim Sunyer and again, Picasso. During these years exhibitions in Barcelona, Paris and New York. In 1932 he was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Jorge de Barcelona. In the work of Hugué, the essential thing is the relationship with nature, taking into account the human figure as an integrated element in it. This is a characteristic of noucentista classicism, but in the hands of Hugué goes beyond its origins limited. Usually represents farmers, but also he reflected bullfighters and dancers, always portrayed with a level of detail and an assessment of the textures that reveal his former training as a goldsmith.
