Pair French Mid-Century Modern Grid Back Cherry Lounge / Armchairs, Rene Gabriel

By Rene Gabriel

Located in New York, NY

An Iconic pair of French Mid-Century Modern armchairs, club or lounge chairs in solid cherry by Rene Gabriel, circa 1948. The chairs feature angled armrests and angled saber legs with stunning grid form back rests which propel the chairs forward into a distinctive modern sensibility. The grid back form has since become an emblematic design of Rene Gabriel. In addition, Gabriel initiated a design innovation as he was one of the first designers to design the chairs proudly displaying their means of construction and to highlight the means of construction itself as an element of style! Thus, the solid cherry wood frame is tongue and groove notched and displayed at the front of the chairs where the legs join the arms. This gives the chairs a bold look. The chairs have been refinished and have new cushions covered in cotton. Gabriel was one of the premiere Modernist designers in France in the post war 1940...

Vienna Lounge Armchair by Colé, Beechwood, Blue Cushions Contemporary Design

By Emmanuel Gallina

Located in Milan, Lombardy

Vienna longue A living room armchair in wood and straw, that recalls the exclusive club atmosphere but in a contemporary key. Vienna is an extraordinarily comfortable and elegant lounge armchair designed by Emmanuel Gallina who loves to quote Brancusi when saying that “simplicity is complexity resolved”. Inspired by Vienna at the end of the 19th century, then up to the 1950s by Marcel Gascoin, through the visions of the American E.J. Brussel. A tribute to Alfred Sloan’s American pragmatism joined to European styling and, in this particular case, to the renowned Italian talent constantly aiming to harmonize beauty and functionality. In solid beech and straw, Vienna is a perfect combination between digital machines and handcraft. The structure is in solid beech. The back and sides in hand-braided Vienna straw fixed in a milling. Cushions in polyurethane foam in different densities. Removable lining in different fabric categories: cotton, felt, linen, eco-leather, wool, velvet or can be coated with C.O.M. fabric. Optional 2nd cushion available. Finishing is in natural beech or beech painted walnut Canaletto. In the Vienna collection...
