Rare Seven-Piece Louis XIV Style Giltwood Salon Suite from France, circa 1880

Located in Dallas, TX

This majestic giltwood Chateau salon suite is from France and dates to circa 1880. There are four side chairs, two armchairs (fauteuils), and a canapé. All have square baluster legs and volute x-stretchers. All the wood has been richly sculpted and gilded, and motifs include scrolls, foliage, rinceaux, palmettes, beading, acanthus leaves and more. The armrests of the fauteuils and canapé are supported by large lion muzzles. The side chairs and canapé are all supported by cross stretchers, while the bright yellow upholstery is more recent, attached by large brass nailheads. The motifs are musical trophies encircled by foliate and floral motifs. French furniture of this style would have been first produced during the reign of Louis XIV, toward the end of the 1600s. A magnificent 19th century suite...

Industrial Rustic Pair Modular Stacking Barrister Bookcase by Globe-Wernicke

By Globe Wernicke

Located in Topeka, KS

Handsome vintage Industrial Rustic pair of modular stacking sectional or barrister bookcases by Globe-Wernicke composed of distressed beige metal frames including 4 tall sections & 1 shorter section each with glass inset door fronts, metal pulls, & upward slide door mechanisms, 2 bases, & 2 tops. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, these cabinets have an all over distressed finish including a few nicks, dings, & rust that we purposely left alone as we appreciate the worn vintage look but they are structurally solid. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Early to Mid-20th Century. STACKS & STACKS of MODULAR MAGNIFICENCE!!!!! WOW!!!! This is an AWESOME pair of modular stacking sectional bookcases by Globe-Wernicke composed of distressed beige metal frames including 4 tall sections & 1 shorter section each with metal framed glass inset door fronts featuring metal pulls, & smooth, upward slide & push back door mechanisms, 2 bases, & 2 tops... one top is a bit shorter than the other. That’s NINE pieces TOTAL!! These marvelous modular horizontal units are also known as sectional or barrister cabinets...

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely suite of three early circa 1920 fully restored Minty oxford stacking legal bookcases in solid oak made in the Art Deco style A very good looking and well-made set, there were a number of companies making this type of bookcase in the late Victorian era up to present day, the finest are by far and away made by Minty. The quality of the craftsmanship is simply out of this world, each door can be opened and rested at any point and it doesn’t move, they are perfectly balanced, the doors have ball bearing clamps which neatly depress to hold the door in place As mentioned these are modular stacking bookcases so you can buy other sections that are the same and make them larger or if you have a small space to fill remove a section to make it smaller Condition wise for the era is sublime, they have each been fully stripped back and French polished from the ground up These are an Art Deco style set, the handles are rectangle and the tops have Manhattan style timber...

A white Oxford shirt is a white dress shirt or casual sports shirt made of Oxford cloth, which is a durable and heavily structured fabric that consists of multiple weft threads that cross over an equal number of warp threads. Oxford cloth is said to have originated in a Scottish mill during the 19th century. The popularization of the Oxford cloth button-down shirt style, which is commonly abbreviated as OCBD, has been traced to when Brooks Brothers president John Brooks witnessed a polo match in England back then. He was so compelled by the fact that the players’ shirt collars were fastened to their shirts with buttons that he returned to the States and created a shirt design informed by the players’ garments. Oxford shirts now come in all kinds of colors and prints. On 1stDibs, shop a variety of shirts.

The difference between Derby and Oxford shoes is the laces. Oxford shoes feature a closed lacing system with the lacing stitched to the vamp, while the vamp on a Derby extends down to the toe piece. As a result, Oxfords have a more formal look. Find a selection of Oxford and Derby shoes on 1stDibs.
