Natalia Gontcharova Art
Russian, 1883-1962
Natalia Gontcharova (Russian, 1881-1962) was born in Ladyshino near Tula in central Russia in 1881. She moved to Moscow to attend school in 1892, where she met Mikhail Larionov, who encouraged her to paint and became her lifelong companion. The following year, she enrolled at the Moscow Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture to study sculpture. Goncharova participated in an exhibition of Russian artists organized by Sergei Diaghilev at the 1906 Salon d'Automne in Paris. Her early work shows the influence of Impressionism, Fauvism, and Russian folk sculpture.
By 1910 she had traveled to Paris and along with Larionov had begun to be heavily involved in Russian avant-garde circles. Together they evolved a neo-primitive style that was favored in the years shortly before the outbreak of the war. Goncharova participated in numerous important exhibitions of new art in Moscow. While she favored Primitivist and Cubist styles, she adopted Cubo-Futurist and Rayonist-for which she credited as a founder of- styles around 1912. She was represented at the second Blau Reiter exhibition in 1912 and the 'Erste deutsche Herbstsalon at the Der Sturm gallery in Berlin in 1913. Around this time, she and Larionov began their collaboration with Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes, which lasted until the impresario's death in 1929.
By 1913, Goncharove, along with Larionov, had turned her attention to a more abstract style, heavily influenced by Italian Futurism and French Cubism; together they evolved a style known as Rayonnism. In 1914 they traveled to Paris at the invitation of Serge Diaghiliv to collaborate on costumes and designs for the Ballet Russe. She settled permanently in Paris in 1917, and became a French citizen in 1938. She exhibited in Moscow, Paris, London and Brussels. She married Larionov in 1955. She died in Paris in 1962.to

Hamlet
By Alphonse Mucha
Located in Fort Washington, PA
Poster of Sarah Bernhart Playing Hamlet. Paris. Mint condition. Linen-backed.
Sarah Bernhardt's groundbreaking portrayal of Hamlet, performed in French, is masterfully captured in Alphonse Mucha's poster. Mucha emphasizes the play's themes of vengeance and mortality, depicting the ghost of Hamlet's murdered father haunting the ramparts of Elsinore in the background, while the tragic drowned Ophelia, adorned with flowers, rests in a coffin-like panel at Hamlet’s feet. This powerful image marks Mucha's final poster commission that depicts the celebrated French actress. The vintage poster is linen-backed and is in excellent condition.
Bernhardt famously played Hamlet in 1899, becoming the first woman to embody the role on stage and later in a film adaptation. Her bold interpretation challenged conventional gender roles and pushed the boundaries of performance, establishing her as a pioneer in both theater and early cinema...

Patrick LoCicero was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1959. He attended Youngstown State University, Ohio, and the Columbus College of Art and Design. He completed a B.F.A. at Ohio State University in 1982 and an M.F.A. at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1986. His paintings, installations, prints, and multimedia work have been shown in California, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. LoCicero's richly layered imagery is characterized by unusual juxtapositions of everyday objects and classical motifs, which play with the viewer's perception of materials and subjects. LoCicero’s assemblage paintings combine collage with painting. The overlap and collage elements relate directly to the images he depicts, guiding him in his choice of subjects, and come from a variety of sources including the Kama Sutra, antique children’s books, letters and journals. His still life paintings resonate due to the contrast the artist sets up between the collaged surface and the painted surface, as well as the play between the actual shallow space and implied deep space. Patrick specializes in creating mixed-media collages that tell stories. Collage paintings inventively reinterpret the collage technique that developed during the Cubist Dada era, and he reinvigorates one of the most important modes of expression in the art of the 20th Century.
