Olympio Art

Togolese, b. 1979

Olympio was born and raised in Togo, West Africa, into a large family of eight children. As far back as he can remember, he has been creating art. His first works were sculptures made from building scraps and found objects. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas. In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. He then came to the US in 2003, and currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Olympio’s work continues to be shown internationally, as well as in the US. His works have been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018, he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists at Art Basel Miami by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde and the BBC. Painting, for Olympio, is fearlessly following a feeling, an instinct. It is discovering the internal balance of a piece and recognizing beauty when it is unveiled, a happy accident. His work is honest and palpable. It is exposed, raw and uncompromisingly direct. His work is rough and energetic, yet balanced by peace and stillness that emanate from below the surface of each piece. Olympio’s work is an unfiltered expression of his soul that manifests in a language of its own. It is that language, a common thread spoken throughout his work. Each piece captures its moment in time. For Olympio, there is no hidden story or elusive meaning behind each painting. It’s just a piece: it is everything and nothing. It is as simple as a heartbeat, as complex as a hurricane.

Artist: Olympio
A Baby Duck - Original Figurative Abstract Textural Artwork
By Olympio
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Olympio, a prominent figurative abstract artist from Togo, creates artwork that is driven by an unapologetic sense of instinct. Olympio’s work is honest and palpable: exposed, raw, and direct. Through a bold use of color and texture, Olympio creates dynamic, multi-layered works that demand the viewer's attention. His work is an unfiltered manifestation of his soul. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures balanced by the peaceful compositions emanating from below the surface. This 48 inch high by 24 inch wide colorful mixed media painting is signed by Kodjovi Olympio on the back of the canvas. The many layers in his work further emphasize the texture and visceral nature of his canvases. The painting is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping are available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included with this original artwork. Olympio was born into a large family of eight children in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. He began his creating art by using building scraps to make sculptures. By the time he was in high school, he started to experiment with mixed media and collage. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas. In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. Olympio moved to the United States in 2003 and has continued to paint. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018 he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde, and the BBC. Untitled Black - Large Textural Original Abstract Artwork - Ready to Hang
By Olympio
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This large textural abstract energetic artwork on canvas by Togolese artist Olympio is a unique mixed media painting with a raw and direct aesthetic, providing an unfiltered manifestation of the artist's soul. Its expressive brushstrokes and vibrant color palette and the incorporation of an additional piece of canvas to the surface add an extra dimension of texture and interest to this already captivating piece. Olympio's raw and direct approach to mixed media and collage on canvas creates a tactile experience that provides a captivating insight into the artist's creative vision. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures that are perfectly balanced by the peaceful compositions beneath, creating a sense of harmony and balance in this exceptional artwork. This 60 inch square mixed-media painting is signed by Olympio on the back of the canvas. His technique brings forth a powerful composition of color and texture. Several details emphasize the texture and materiality of his canvases. The painting is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping are available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Painting, for Olympio, is following a feeling. It is discovering the internal balance of a piece and recognizing beauty when it is unveiled. In his early 20's in the coastal city of Lomé, he would watch the sky slip from blues into oranges and reds. These colors captured him and drew forward the pieces that have since brought his work into galleries around the globe. He now resides in Los Angeles and is collected worldwide. The Upside Down - Large Original Abstract Painting Ready to Hang
By Bruce Rubenstein
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The paintings of Bruce Rubenstein seamlessly marry sophistication with affordability. His original art merges the creative attitudes of the two distinct art hot spots of New York and Los Angeles. Rubenstein's work has a rigid edge and strong composition but maintains organic shapes and soft colors as well. His works have a character that brightens a space. His paintings pull from abstract expressionism and cubism but maintain a contemporary edge that strikes the viewer. His work seems collectively new and timeless at once. This large affordable one-of-a-kind 40 inch square and 2.25 inch deep artwork is a mixed media composition on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. This large abstract painting is signed by the artist on the front and back of the artwork. The sides are painted and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. Provenance: Artplex Gallery. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. While the artist has chosen to keep the price upon request, this captivating piece embodies both sophistication and exceptional value. Bruce Rubenstein specializes in large-scale artworks, using huge canvases to tell his stories. Born and raised in New York, he moved to Los Angeles in 1985. His mixed media artworks defy categorization, blending abstract forms and organic shapes with subtle hints of figures and symbols. Adrien Brody and Mickey Rourke are among Rubenstein’s collectors. Bruce Rubenstein’s artistic influences include artists from Joan Miró and Jean Arp to Gerhard Richter and Pablo Picasso. “He is an artist, and that means someone who cannot restrain the flow of ideas,” says author David Rodgers. “He is someone who they just burst out of, who cannot help but communicate, and who sees no reason to stop. He’s a man not limited by media to communicate the stories that he needs to (and must) tell, through any medium he feels necessary.” His works are represented by Artplex Gallery Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including exhibitions in Austria and Israel.
