His career spanned over 50 years, but he did not always plan on being an artist. He was born in London, and studied at the Merchant Taylor School in France. After moving back to England, he worked for several architects in London during the 1930s. Working as an architectural draughtsman helped Chadwick to hone his drawing and compositional skills.
