Patrick Heron Art

British, 1920-1999
Patrick Heron was a painter, textile designer and writer on art. He was born in January 1920 in Leeds, the son of T.M. Heron, founder of Cresta Silks and a Christian sociologist. From 1925 to 1930, Heron lived in St Ives. He studied at the Slade School from 1937 to 1939. The Second World War interrupted his painting, but in 1945 he settled in London and began to paint again. The Braque exhibition at the Tate Gallery deeply impressed him in 1946, and Heron had his first one-man exhibitions in 1947 at the London Redfern Gallery and in 1960 at the New York Bertha Schaefer Gallery. He became an art critic to the New Statesman and Nation in 1947, and the London correspondent to Arts (New York) in 1955. A retrospective exhibition was put on displaying Heron's work at the Wakefield Art Gallery in 1952, and he went on a northern tour that same year. Twelve paintings of his were held in the São Paulo Bienal from 1953 to 1954. Heron turned to abstract art under the influence of American abstract painting in 1956, and he moved to Zennor, Cornwall, in the same year. At the end of the 1950s, he was awarded First Prize in the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. Heron was also a successful writer and was the author of The Changing Forms of Art (1955), Ivon Hitchens (1955) and Braque (1956). Heron's work is part of numerous public and private collections, including Deutsche Bank, the Courtauld and the Yale Center for British Art..

Hilaire Hiler 1934 WPA Era Color Serigraph – Native American Fox Costume Art
By Hilaire Hiler
Located in Denver, CO
This vibrant 1934 vintage color serigraph (silkscreen print) by acclaimed artist Hilaire Hiler (1898–1966) depicts a stylized Native American figure dressed in a fox costume holding a bow, featuring a bold feather headdress and striking contrasts of black, red, and white. Created during the influential WPA era, this modernist print reflects Hiler’s semi-abstract approach to Native American themes, blending cultural symbolism with avant-garde color theory. Signed in pencil by Hiler in the lower right margin and titled on the verso, this serigraph is a rare and evocative example of early 20th-century American modernism. About Hilaire Hiler: Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Hiler studied at the University of Paris and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before immersing himself in the European avant-garde scene. He supported his art career by performing as a jazz musician in Paris. Returning to the U.S. in 1934, Hiler contributed murals to the WPA Aquatic Park...

Pleased to Meet You Again
Located in North Adams, MA
Silkscreen in 9 colors on 320 gram Coventry Rag Dimensions: 29" x 29" Signed by the Artists in pencil An edition of 75 John “CRASH” Matos and Eric Orr met for the first time as high school students. Although the exact location is unclear, both agree that it would have been at either Fashion Moda or the Writers’ Bench at 149th Street and Grand Concourse. Founded by Stefan Eins in 1978, Fashion Moda began as a “cultural concept” whose principles revolved around the fact that art can be made by anyone, anywhere and art should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Located in the South Bronx, Fashion Moda embraced new talent and encouraged creative production across all mediums. The gallery has been credited as a major force behind the recognition of graffiti writing as an art form and it played a pivotal role in a community where Hip Hop was rapidly emerging. CRASH was only 19 years old when he curated “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion Moda and his varied experiences at the gallery would later inspire his founding of WALLWORKS. The 149th Street Writers’ Bench, located at the back of the uptown...
