Charles Paine (1895-1967) Lend to Defend – count every penny, every penny counts (1940) Lithograph 76.5 x 51 cm (30 x 20 in) Published by H.M. Stationery Office, printed by Vincent, Brooks Day & Son Ltd., London Provenance: the family of the artist. This poster is a very striking image of a field gun, where the wheel is illustrated as an old penny. The reader of the poster is exhorted to lend his spare cash to the Government in order that the Government can spend it on armaments in order to win the Second World War
