Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Gerhard Richter, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In 1984 Mauel was asked by the city of Wuppertal, Germany to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch. This had a major influence on the selection of themes in her imagery. Rather than focusing on spectacular poses, she pays acute attention to the spontaneous movements in between, capturing a resonating rush of color and form. These impromptu paintings combine a long tradition of Eastern scroll painting, expressionist sketching, and fashion illustration. She lives and works as a lecturer in painting and artist in Cologne, Germany. Bettina Mauel has presented her work in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, North America, and Asia and her art has been acquired by many notable public institutions. Bay area estate sale find. Gordon Cook was born in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington where he received his B.F.A in 1950. Cook then went on to study fundamentals and life drawing at The American Academy of Art* in Chicago. The same year he studied intaglio* printmaking with Vera Berdich at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago*. He took graduate courses and continued studying intaglio printmaking under artist Mauricio Lasansky at the State University of Iowa. In 1951, Cook moved to San Francisco. Soon after his works received the journeyman's card in International Typographical Union, Local 21. He began exhibiting his prints, drawings, and paintings at the Porpoise Gallery in San Francisco. Four years later, Cook became a charter member of the Bay Printmakers Society and exhibited in their annual exhibitions at the Oakland Art Museum for the next five years. His etchings portrayed mainly San Francisco landscapes such as the Golden Gate Park, Diamond Heights, and Lake Merced as well as flowers, especially roses. He participated in his first weekly drawing group with artist Alvin Light, Manuel Neri, Joan Brown, and William H. Brown. Cook also taught at the San Francisco Art Institute*. His etchings where exhibited in a one-man exhibition at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, in the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts. At this point Cook returned to painting.
