Seated Nude Woman American Impressionist School 1940s by Fred Yost
Located in Soquel, CA
Seated Nude Woman American Figurative School 1940s Mid-century American impressionist painting of a woman by American artist Frederick "Fred" Yost (American/Swiss, 1888-1968). He studied: at Mt. Union Col., Alliance, OH; American Students League, New York, and with Homer Boss, John Sloan, Robert Henri, R. Lahey. The painting gleans much form his studies with John Sloan and Robert Henri in the French post-impressionist style. Image 24"H x 18"W Frame, 30"H x 24"W x 1.5"D Signed "Yost" lower right Painter, lithographer, teacher, lecturer About Fred's life: by Hal Fry of the Herald “Fred Does Whatever He Likes” was a title given to a biography written about Fred Yost by Hal Fry of the Herald. The following is taken directly from this column: “Fred Yost’s living style is like his painting style. He has fun with it. Fred John Yost was born in Switzerland, he’ sure, on November 6, 1889, he thinks. His father John brought the family to his country when Fred was about a year old—first to New York and later to Canton, Sebring and finally Alliance, where Yost Sr. loaded freight for a railroad. Fred like drawing and painting so far back he can’t remember how or when it started—it was always that way. But through the public schools in Alliance he didn’t think of this as a career possibility. He wanted to be a newspaperman. He worked his way through Mt. Union College, finishing, he thinks, about 1912. Then he beat it for New York and after kicking around for a time got a job as a proofreader for the Wall Street Journal. He combined this and art school until World War I took him into the Army. In infantry, field artillery and ordnance duties he served with the 27th New York Division through St. Mihiel and the Argonne and the rest—in the process getting his hearing clobbered by blasts from his outfit’s own guns. Coming out a Sergeant in 1919, he went back to the Wall Street Journal briefly—then caught on as a staff artist for the (New York) Herald. For several years, when he felt like it, Yost would take a bus to the Mexican border and switch to a Mexican bus to carry him way down south, then make it any way he could to the places he wanted to see. On these trips he virtually becomes a peon, disappearing totally from those who know him—living with, like and clearly thoroughly liked by the people among whom he moves.” Yost was a graduate of the Art Students League and past president of the Ohio Watercolor Society. Tricks - Original Oil Painting, Anthropomorphic Scene with Cat and Seagull
By Wendy Vaughan
Located in Chicago, IL
In this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This artwork is framed in dark wood with painted gold inset. Life - New York City Original Aerial View Oil Painting on Canvas by Albert Vidal
By Albert Vidal Moreno
Located in Chicago, IL
This painting of New York City's Chrysler Building captures a wide swath of Manhattan from an areal view. Using palette knife and brush Albert Vidal manages to combine realist painting with abstraction. Splashes of bright blue, red and green paint graffiti the surface in a Jackson Pollack like effect. The numbers at the bottom of the painting represent the artist's signature. This artwork is framed in a simple black wood float. Albert Vidal Life, 2015 oil on linen 52h x 52w in Albert Vidal is an aerial urban landscapes painter based in Barcelona, Spain. He has painted mostly landscapes from around the world for over 20 years and is inspired by artists such as Antonio Lopez Garcia and Anselm Kiefer. The artist thinks about his compositions in a three dimensional way with paint relief that creates dimension and body in the piece. The emptiness which represents a sea or wasteland keep the balance of the composition as well as the ensemble. The artificial space Vidal creates evolves over time and explores the difference between cities, urban planning, and their structures. INDIVIDUAL EXIBITIONS albert vidal February. Anatomy Lesson #63 (contemporary male torso study, framed)
By Robert Goldstrom
Located in Hudson, NY
Anatomy Study #63 Contemporary Nude Oil Painting of toned male with outstretched arms Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2023, 10 x 8 inches, 11 x 9 inches framed in white wood frame Robert Goldstrom is best known for his Brooklyn landscape paintings, but he is similarly prolific with his anatomy studies. Goldstrom comes from a background in illustration, and these roots can be seen throughout his figure paintings. A hallmark of his style is the way Goldstrom uses softly blended colors and his purposeful use of shadows to accentuate the organic shape and form of the figure. In this specific piece, the face is obfuscated in shadow, forcing the eye to focus on the prominent deltoids and latissimus muscles, brought to the foreground. Goldstrom's painting style is subtly pointillist with peppered brushstrokes that reflect light off of the natural curvatures of the muscle. The background color of this canvas falls between a deep dusty rose or burnt sienna, which complements the figure's warm naked skin tone. About the artist: Robert Goldstrom lives and paints Upstate New York by way of Brooklyn, NY. After years of making a living as an illustrator, winning both Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators, Robert turned more and more to creating personal work. Now a full-time artist, he usually works in series – The Anatomy Lesson...
