Robin Hextrum Landscape Paintings

American, b. 1987
Robin Hextrum (born 1987) produces oil paintings that merge classical techniques with contemporary environmental discourse, creating works that examine luxury, consumption, and humanity's impact on the natural world. Raised in the coastal environment of Stinson Beach, California, she developed an environmental awareness that permeates her artistic vision, incorporating animals, plants, and climate imagery into complex allegorical compositions. Her academic training encompasses both artistic practice and theoretical study, with degrees including a double major in Fine Art and Neuroscience from USC, an MFA in painting from Laguna College of Art and Design specializing in representational work, and an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art History from UC Riverside. This comprehensive education allows her to draw connections between historical art movements and contemporary issues. Hextrum's paintings reference Dutch still life traditions, particularly the symbolic language of wealth and mortality found in vanitas works, while addressing modern environmental crises. She incorporates iconic elements like tulips, which reference the historical tulip mania bubble, alongside contemporary symbols of consumption and climate change. Her technique combines realistic rendering with abstract elements, creating visual tension that reflects thematic concerns about uncertainty and environmental instability. The artist's commitment to animal welfare and environmental advocacy extends beyond her art practice through her vegetarian lifestyle and support of organizations addressing factory farming and global poverty. This personal philosophy informs her artistic choice to present animals as empowered subjects rather than objects, challenging traditional hierarchies in visual representation. Hextrum serves as tenured professor and chair of the Visual Art Program at Regis University and has received support from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and The Stobart Foundation. Her work is represented by select galleries across the United States including Abend Gallery, reflecting her position within contemporary representational painting discourse.

Rising - Surreal Landscape with Row of Trees and Owl, Oil on Panel
By John Hrehov
Located in Chicago, IL
The pristine, symmetrical and orderly landscape brings an unnatural stillness to John Hrehov's painting entitled "Rising". The owl is central to the sparse landscape peeking out of it's home in the tree. Straight lines and geometric patterns are used to compose a glossy concept of reality. The painting is framed in a simple dark gray wooden frame measuring 25.25 x 29.25 inches. John Hrehov Rising oil on panel 24h x 28w in 60.96h x 71.12w cm JHR012 John Hrehov Education 1985 MFA-Painting, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 1981 BFA-Painting, Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH. English 19th century English Farm with shire Clydesdale horses in a landscape
By John Frederick Herring Sr.
Located in Woodbury, CT
English School Farmyard Scene with Horses and Goat Oil on panel, unsigned The Circle of John Frederick Herring Sr. Circa 1880 Presented in a later gilt and painted frame This finely rendered 19th-century English farmyard scene captures the quiet dignity of rural life, with a group of three horses—white, chestnut, and black—gathered beneath a tree in the warm light of late afternoon. A small goat stands to one side near a rustic stable, adding a note of charming domesticity to the composition. The surrounding landscape, with its distant hills and careful play of shadow and cloud, speaks to the artist’s sensitivity to atmosphere and detail. Though unsigned, the painting is executed in a manner closely aligned with the work of John Frederick Herring Senior, one of Britain’s most celebrated animal painters of the Victorian era. The careful modelling of the horses, their distinctive postures and anatomy, and the tranquil farm setting are all hallmarks of Herring’s influence. Painted in oils on a wooden panel, the surface retains a fine, even gloss and a warm palette typical of the period. The composition is both balanced and lyrical: the interplay of form and gesture among the animals invites the viewer into a moment of repose between work and activity, emblematic of Victorian ideals of harmony between man, beast, and the land. A delightful example of 19th-century English rural painting...

By Angel Ramiro Sanchez
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
Painted en plein air in Fiesole, Italy, just outside of the bustling city of Florence. Artist Bio Angel Ramiro Sanchez was born in 1974 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. At age six was accepted with full scholarship into the Instituto the Niños Cantores del Zulia, school for musically gifted children. At age fourteen he began five years of apprenticeship with the realist painter, Abdon J. Romero, an eminent specialist in murals for churches and public buildings. In 1993, a study grant from Mgr. Gustavo Ocando Yamarte, Founder the Niños Cantores, enabled him to travel to Florence, Italy, where he studied at the renowned Accademia di Belle Arti, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1997. At the same time, he was enrolled at The Florence Academy of Art,founded by painter Daniel Graves, where he received a diploma in Painting. Ramiro was appointed senior painting instructor at The Florence Academy of Art in 1997, and is currently Director of the Advanced Painting Program. Ramiro paints only from life, searching for accuracy beyond physical appearance to reach the psychological state of his subject. He believes the painter must draw his information from "all five senses" to tell the complete human story. Ramiros work is predominantly represented by th e Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor, New York, but also Scriba Gallery, venice, Italy, Jack Meier Gallery, Houston, Tx. Ramiros works can be found in numerous private collections in Europe, The United States and South America. Public collections include: The Fondazione Stelline, Milan, Italy. Night Crossing - Model Pirate Ship and Constellations, Oil on Panel
By John Hrehov
Located in Chicago, IL
A model pirate ship dominates the geometric backdrop of this perplexing painting titled, "Night Crossing." Constellations painted on the tiled surface suggest the ship is headed on a journey to be guided by star-filled sky above. Notions of voyage and conquest come to mind, but the boat is moored to its wooden base, dashing any hopes for adventure. The painting is framed in a simple walnut stained wooden frame measuring 25.25 x 21.25 inches.
