By Roger Mequinion

Located in Philadelphia, PA

Large and bold, this Art Deco ceramic platter featuring a mermaid trumpeting a shell and embracing a dolphin while another dolphin and starfish are cavorting in the water nearby, was made Roger Mequinion, who produced an entirely unique series of ceramic pieces with thick layers of glaze that he sandblasted to create a layered, three-dimensional design. Mequinion was the first sculptor to work for René Lalique, and helped the master develop a sandblasting technique for his early glass...

"Triton with Dolphin", Art Deco Low Bowl in Blue with Aquatic Creatures, France

By Roger Mequinion

Located in Philadelphia, PA

Here, the outer glaze is a deep blue color, but the sandblasting reveals layers of light blue and white underneath. Mequinion was the first sculptor to work for René Lalique, and helped the master develop a sandblasting technique for his early glass...
