This antique Victorian mourning locket pendant was once worn close to someones heart. The locket pendant dates back to the 19th century and is created in 14 karat gold. The front and back of this oval-shaped pendant is beautifully engraved with ornaments while the side is embellished with scrolling foliage. Behind the glass plate hair work is placed as a remembrance of the deceased. The pendant comes without the chain. Mourning jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. An exceptional, fine and impressive 14 karat yellow gold locket with a 17 karat yellow gold chain; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections. This exceptional, fine and impressive antique locket has been crafted in 14k yellow gold. The exceptional yellow gold locket has an oval form, embellished with impressive embossed and chased Burmese style decoration to the domed anterior and posterior covers. The ornamentation to the anterior surface depicts the figure of Krishna* playing the flute, positioned next to a calf, and surrounded by intricate floral motifs. The posterior face of the locket bears the figure of Saraswati** playing a Saraswati veena, with a swan in the foreground of the image and floral motifs encircling the figure. The yellow gold border of the locket is plain and unembellished. This hinged locket opens to reveal two windows, allowing for a personal memento to be stored within. The pendant suspends from a 1920s 17k yellow gold 26" belcher chain via a ring loop to the upper border of the frame. The chain secures with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening. The exceptional antique locket is hallmarked to the lower border of each cover with the 14k gold fineness mark 585, the importer's mark (RES) and the London import mark date letter for 1979 (E). This Art Nouveau gold lorgnette likely originates from the United States during the first 20 years of the 20th Century. Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold the lorgnette is extremely simple in its design and is virtually void of ornamentation with the exception of some fine scrollwork around the lens casing. The lenses that are currently fitted are likely original, and whilst in-tact do have some abrasions to the surface of the glass. The piece is marked internally for 14 karat gold and also has a makers mark in the form of a Maltese cross inside a circle, which is currently unidentified. In good condition the piece only has some minor dents to the gold which are commensurate with age. Once a very frequently used object, this wondrous lorgnette would be a beautiful pendant on a long chain for someone wanting a piece of gold...
