Tadayuki Naito Art
Japanese, b. 1941
Tadayuki Naito was born in Tokyo in 1941. Miles Davis and jazz music captured his attention at age 17 and in his early 20s he began taking photographs of leading jazz musicians and their live stage performances. In 1970, he set up his own company, Photohouse OM, and published a photobook on Terumasa Hino, a trumpet player of his generation. One of Naito’s life-long interests was to capture photographically the powerful performances of musicians in the jazz world. The photographer took extensive trips to Africa, Asia, and America, and made many photographs. The results of these trips make up the artist’s photo series The Songs of Africa (Tokyo Shinbunsha, 1982) and Zebra (Joho Center Tokyo, 1988). The images are included in exhibitions, publications and in graphic design and textile projects.to
