Double Vision (cryptography series)

Abstract. Vibrant. Painting. About the Artist: "I contemplate every color, mark, and placement of the line to formulate what I call rhythmic velocities: relationships of color and motion that give life to the composition, creating a heartbeat. I am interested in the duality of math and design: through repetition, a line made of color becomes a rhythmic pattern. This concept is found when composing music, organic landscapes and architectural structures. By referencing these sources, my abstractions transcend their formal components, reaching beyond a minimalist canon. My work is composed of hard edges and thin lines set against an abstract field or a pictorial space. Each color has a quickness that is relative to the colors surrounding it; this gives my paintings visual movement and dislocates the viewer. Through linear and geometric forms, my paintings explore design and mathematical concepts found broadly throughout culture. They are improvised from a wide range of sources such as my conversations with scholars in various fields of music, architecture and engineering, my life experiences and travels." "Ouverture, with Cypress Forms" Stephen Edlich, Abstract Geometric Painting

By Stephen Edlich

Located in New York, NY

Stephen Edlich Ouverture, with Cypress Forms, 1982 Signed, dated and titled on the stretcher Acrylic paint, mixed media, and burlap on canvas 60 x 40 inches An artist who worked in the post-cubist and constructivist traditions, Stephen P. Edlich gained a considerable amount of acclaim in the 1970s and 1980s for his collages, sculpture, and paintings. His promising career was cut short due to his untimely death at age 45 in 1989. Edlich was born in New York City. He received his undergraduate degree with a major in fine arts studies from New York University in 1967. During his college years, he traveled to London, where he met the art dealer Victor Waddington and created his first white on white collage. In that same year, he attended a major exhibition of the work of Ben Nicholson, which would be influential source in his art. Edlich returned to England in 1967, where he met Barbara Hepworth and Patrick Heron in London and traveled to St. Ives, Cornwall, long a favorite artists' haunt. Edlich began creating acrylic reliefs...

Moonlight Bay Atmospheric Abstract Seascape Art by Contemporary British Artist

By Angela Wakefield

Located in Preston, GB

Moonlight Bay Atmospheric Abstract Seascape Painting by Leading Contemporary British Artist, Angela Wakefield Art measures 31.5 x 31.5 inches Frame measure 37 x 37 inches This painting is an exquisite example of abstract expressionism, capturing the viewer's imagination with its evocative use of colour and form. The artist skillfully blends deep, moody blacks and grays with vibrant splashes of pink, orange, and yellow, creating a dynamic contrast that suggests a dramatic sunset or a tempestuous sky. The interplay of light and dark tones brings a sense of depth and movement to the piece, inviting the viewer to interpret the scene through their own lens. The broad, expressive brushstrokes and layers of colour give the painting a textured, almost tactile quality, adding to its visual intrigue. This complexity in texture and color makes it a compelling focal point for any room, drawing the eye and sparking conversation. The artwork is beautifully framed in an elegant, slightly distressed gold frame that complements the richness of the painting, adding a touch of sophistication and timelessness. This combination of contemporary abstract style with a classic frame makes it versatile for various interior settings, from modern minimalist to more traditional decors. Ideal for collectors who appreciate the emotional and interpretative power of abstract art, this painting offers a unique blend of intensity and tranquility. It not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of a space but also provides a window into the artist's creative vision, making it a truly captivating piece for any art enthusiast. Angela Wakefield has twice been on the front cover of ‘Art of England’ and featured in ARTnews, attracting international attention and critical acclaim with her urban landscape paintings of New York, London & the North of England. The style of painting has been described as ‘contemporary realism’, and is often favourably compared with Edward Hopper by collectors and art critics. Angela’s work is held in private collections in Europe and the USA, including the British Royal Family. Her admirers include leading figures in international business, filmmaking and the media.
