Originally realised for the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and inspired by Donald Judd and Børge Mogensen, Anodised Wicker marries industrially extruded and anodised aluminium with hand-woven cane wicker, rush envelope and flax webbing seats. The clinical and precise aluminium contrasts the warm and organic material. To this day we assemble the pieces in my studio in London and apply the cane, rush or webbing seating ourselves. Created in collaboration with Theodora Alfredsdottir, “Corrugation” is a collection of lights inspired by midcentury furniture making, honouring the technique of veneer forming. It consists of a scalable hanging light and wall sconces, which can serve as building blocks to create unique combinations playfully spanning across whole rooms. The collection takes veneer forming as a starting point, a process that requires skilled craftsmanship, which was introduced to the furniture world by design names like Alvar Aalto and the Eames couple, and pairs it with off-the-shelf aluminium tubes.
