Born and raised in Germany, conceptual still life photographer Tom Schierlitz studied photography in Düsseldorf before moving to New York City in 1987.
His unique viewpoint is informed by a discerning eye for details, managing to find striking visuals in the most ordinary objects as well as creating captivating images of cult treasures and mundane objects of desire. Schierlitz’s highly detailed still life photographs challenge the viewer to a new way of observing, revealing new details with every viewing of the large format works.(Biography provided by Edition EKTAlux)

About the project:
"Detritus' series was born from the twin frustrations of lockdown halting all planned projects, yet litter still somehow being dropped in abundance on my street.
With no idea of the final output, or indeed the hygiene implications, I started to collect, scan, and record what I found. When I realised these colourful misshapen objects could be turned into something beautiful, the frustrations left me and I began looking for other sources of Detritus.
These collages gave me purpose during the pandemic and allowed me to grow something beautiful from a place of frustration. My aim is to simply give viewers of the work a fleeting moment of calm.
