Valerie Beller Art

American, b. 1965
Valerie Beller was born in San Antonio, Texas, and resides in Chicago, Illinois. Beller received her BA in Liberal Arts at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, and an MFA in painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1991. Valerie Beller’s abstract paintings encourage visual exploration. Organic forms are both revealed and concealed amidst layers of paint. Textural applications of oil paint accent the streaked and stained surfaces of the canvas. Her paintings show reflections on nature and memory. Beller’s intriguing titles, a “poetic tie” to the paintings, invite the viewer to bring in their own associations.
