A captivating and highly collectible vintage Mid-Century Modern Venetian art glass aquarium block, masterfully attributed to the workshop of Gino Cenedese from an iconic design by Alfredo Barbini, circa 1950s. Standing at a commanding 5 13/16 inches, this solid crystal sculpture beautifully captures a miniature, perpetual underwater world.
Utilizing the complex sommerso (submerged) technique, the glass master has perfectly encased three highly detailed, multi-colored tropical fish frozen mid-swim. The dynamic underwater scene features a vivid cobalt blue fish, a spotted orange angelfish, and a banded reef fish hovering gracefully above an abstract, colorful gravel sea-bed interspersed with elegant, hand-pulled green marine reeds and organic internal air bubbles.
Condition Report: Presented in good vintage condition with excellent clarity to the crystal body. To ensure absolute transparency, there is a small, discrete chip located on the lower back corner of the base, which is completely hidden from view when the piece is displayed from the front. This genuine mid-century sculpture remains a fantastic, bright statement piece for any collector of fine Italian art glass.
