Victorian Impressionist Large Oil Painting of a young girl with her three goats in a farmyard.
This is an unusual subject for Lee Hankey who is more widely known for his landscapes in soft colours. It is presumed an early work.

Oil Painting on canvas mounted on stretchers and framed in a traditional Impressionist style handmade frame.
This painting has been in a private collection for around 30 years and was previously owned by the Fine Art Society. It is a beautiful study of a young peasant girl with her goats in a farm courtyard. The work is both sensitive and charming, he employs a lovely earthy palette and has a sketchy foreground and more detailed background.
William Lee Hankey was born in Chester, Cheshire. On leaving School he became a designer, studying art in the evenings at Chester School of Art. In 1894 he first exhibited in London where his paintings and individual style attracted immediate attention.
