Dutch Hearts
By Jim Dine
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Jim Dine was one of the key artists who defined American Pop Art in the 1960s.
Like Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol, Dine appropriated quintessential American images and icons.
He used ubiquitous and familiar forms, like tools, food, and stylized clothing, as the basis for bold and colorful compositions inspired by Dada assemblage, Abstract Expressionism, and collage techniques.
The "Heart" is the most celebrated icon in Dine's oeuvre. He uses its motif to explore pattern, color, and texture across mediums.
This classic and iconic example of Jim Dine's hearts from his most sought-after period. Four coral hearts, adorned with flecks of blood orange, hover in the center of the work.
The background features tactile grapefruit splotches that dance across the sheet to reveal and accentuate stretches of negative space. The result is a striking illusion of depth that simultaneously camouflages the hearts and accelerates them to the foreground of the work.

Violet Chevron
By Kenneth Noland
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Kenneth Noland (1924 – 2010) is one of the most important artists and contributors to the evolution of American abstraction. He is one of the most beloved and enduring figures in the Color-Field movement.
Unlike many of his contemporaries, such as Helen Frankenthaler and Sam Gilliam, Noland nearly rejected printmaking until later in his career. And once Noland began collaborating with the printmakers at Tyler Graphics (and other studios) he was more interested in using their applications to make unique one-of-a-kind artworks.
This unique and intimately-scaled monotype is an excellent example of Noland's signature forms and aesthetic from the late 1970s/early 1980s. The chevron was a frequently employed motif of his, first debuting around 1963 and realized repeatedly through the years in different styles and medium.
Here, Noland dissolves the strict geometric lines of his signature chevron or pointed "V", overwhelming the structure with color that appears to be either smeared, splattered or scraped. Lavender, pale rose, mauve, cornflower, chartreuse, ocean blue, ivory and pearl shift into and out of each other, yet avoiding the clear-cut stacked triangular outline of his signature chevron arrangement.
Noland's chevrons are some of the most iconic and desirable works in the 20th-century art canon. This piece is a fine example of one of Noland's creations that showcases his ingenuity and mastery of color.

Bar Back
By Attila Richard Lukacs
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Attila Richard Lukacs (b. 1962) is one of Canada's most distinctive if not revolutionary Canadian figurative painters.
Lukacs established his reputation in the 1980s by creating astonishing large-scale paintings that depicted skinheads, construction workers, and other masculine archetypes in elaborate and erotic scenes.
The physical presence of the Lukacs' male subjects stands out as one of the artist's most distinctive aesthetic elements. With meticulous attention to form and proportions, Lukacs skillfully renders his young men with expressive brushwork and an intense, moody palette reminiscent of the old masters.
Despite the monumental scale of his canvases, Lukacs begins his creative process with a much more intimate and modern-day tool: the Polaroid.
Because of its immediacy and simplicity, it became an essential part of his process in the 80's and 90's. As a result, the artist amassed a trove of over 1,200 Polaroids that depict lovers, friends, and anonymous models in various poses that serve as a starting point for his paintings.
In this grid of Polaroids, "Bar Back" is a young man posing nude on top of a first aid kit. The exceptional warmth and rich hues infuse this series of 12 Polaroids with a sensual and painterly quality, a characteristic that is undoubtably present throughout the artist's oeuvre.
From 2009-2012 a large touring exhibition devoted to Lukacs' Polaroids was shown at several museums across Canada including Museum London and the Art Gallery of Alberta. Working with Michael Morris...

Young Man with Flower
By Andy Warhol
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is arguably the most important American artist of the 20th century. He not only defined Pop Art but had an unrivaled influence on artists and image-making.
In recent years there has been new scholarship and increasing commercial interest in Andy Warhol's early works, material created prior to Pop Art.
During the 1950's Warhol established himself in New York City as a trendy illustrator contributing to a wide number of fashion publications and retailers. His simple line drawings were modern and gentle, with a subtle but unmistakably gay touch. In a short period of time, he created an aesthetic that was both versatile and distinctively his.
Like the consummate artist that he was, Warhol was frequently drawing. The images he created during this era, independent from his fashion commissions, were romantic, hopeful, and unabashedly gay. It is worth emphasizing that Warhol was almost exclusively dedicated to drawing during this period, only creating a handful of paintings - which were intended to be used for window displays.
Taschen, the legendary art book publisher, recently released the book Andy Warhol: Love, Sex, and Desire 1950-1962 which celebrates his drawings of the male form from the pre-Pop era.
This portrait is a paradigm of Warhol's mastery of line and visionary framing. A man's profile commands the composition as he gazes forward with his hand raised towards his mouth, holding a delicate flower. With the lightest touch, Warhol masterly portrays this male ideal with the details of his chiseled jawline, softened gaze, and timeless elegance.
Warhol drawings from the 1950s are marked by a gentle whimsy that embodies Warhol's vivid imagination. With fanciful details such as exaggerated lips and eyebrows, "Young Man with Flower...
