Will Adler is a 38 year old west coast photographer known for his distinctive take on the surf world. Adler's laid back, light infused images, (as often of women surfers as men) convey the spirit and atmosphere of place as much as the action of the sport and have earned him a cult following in surfing and photography circles. For his summer show at Danziger Gallery, Adler is showing pictures from Hawaii, California, and Montauk shot for himself and for magazines such as Juxtapoz, Neon, Surfer, WAX, and The New Yorker, His commercial clients have included Quiksilver, Patagonia, Nike, and Hixsept.

Artist Biography -
Michael Light was born in 1963. The pre-eminent aerial photographer of his generation, he is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship for photography and his work is in the collections of major museums from SF MoMA to the Victoria and Albert. Prior to taking up aerial photography, Light conceived of and put together the book Full Moon - the first look at NASA photography as fine art - and a project which was published in multiple editions selling several hundred thousand copies around the world. In a way Full Moon had a bearing on Light's subsequent aerial work, as he continues to see and explore the terrestrial world much as the astronauts saw the moon.
For the last 15 years Light has been flying his own small aircraft primarily over the American West investigating how both man and nature make their mark on the landscape. To date Light has completed 18 separate Western projects - each of which comprises an oversize handmade artist's book as well as more traditional prints. Largely documenting the impact of man and industry on the land (but not immune to the sublime) Light's subjects range from Utah's gold and copper mines and the (over)development of places like Sun City, AZ and Lake Las Vegas, NV to contrasting Arizona's Meteor Crater - the largest meteoric impact site in the Americas - with James Turrell's Roden Crater...

At the age of 16 Lora received her first camera and from that moment and for the next few decades she produced work that is both stunning in its singular voice and revealing in the world it opens up for us.
At first Nichols photographed her family, friends, and the landscape around Encampment, but when the town experienced a copper mining boom Nichols expanded her scope to become a photographer for hire shooting portraits and industrial photographs. When the boom collapsed, Nichols took the risk of opening her own business in Encampment - The Rocky Mountain Studio - which opened in 1925. The studio ran for ten years, accumulating 24,000 negatives that illustrate the lives and environment of the people living in and around the town while creating a distinctive and surprising body of work. If one was to attempt an analogy – Nichols’ pictures fit somewhere between Lartigue and Lange - joyful and generous while objectively intimate. Artist biography -
(American, b.1969) is a photographer who is best known for photographing the Midwestern United States. He lives in Minneapolis, MN, which is also the city of his birth, although he relocated to Bronxville, NY, for his studies at Sarah Lawrence College. Soth's early work include a self-published book of portrait and landscape photographs entitled Sleeping by the Mississippi, which was the result of his travels along the Mississippi River. This book won him much attention from art critics, who said that his photographs conveyed a strong sense of intimacy with the landscape. His photograph Charles, which shows a man standing on the roof of his house with a model airplane in each hand, was used as a poster for the 2004 Whitney Biennial show, in which Soth's works were exhibited.
Soth, who was extremely shy during childhood and adolescence, was driven to start photographing people after being influenced by the work of portrait photographer Diane Arbus. He has said in interviews that he feels awkward approaching people and asking to take their photographs, and that he feels drawn to loners, hermits, and travelers as the subjects of his work. After his initial success with Sleeping by the Mississippi, Soth went on to publish a second photography book in 2006 entitled Niagara. For this work, he photographed people and places around Niagara Falls. He has since then produced two more books, Last Days of W and From Here to There: Alec Soth's America. He has also produced commissioned work for The New York Times Magazine.
Soth's work is included in a number of permanent collections, including those at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. He is represented by the Weinstein Gallery...

Kevans’ paintings reflect her interests in power, manipulation and the role of the individual in inherited belief systems. She looks at alternative histories and how they relate to current issues and creates what she describes as ‘anti-portraits’ that may or may not be based on real documentation. She believes that, as her work is concept driven, sometimes the actual similarity to the person depicted in the work is irrelevant. Yuji Obata was born in Japan in 1962. He attended the Nihon University College of Art and currently resides in Tokyo. He has won numerous photography prizes in Japan, and his work was first shown outside of Japan in 2010 with Danziger Projects at Pulse Miami.
In 2003, Obata was compelled to photograph winter scenes in Japan as he stood in front of Pieter Bruegel's painting "The Hunters in the Snow" in Vienna's Museum of Art History. Upon returning to Japan, he traveled to the country's northernmost island, Hokkaidō, known for its cold and snowy winters. As he worked there photographing ice skaters at a middle school rink and a local speed skating team, his enchantment with images of winter deepened. Traveling around different regions of the island in winter, he began noticing the varied qualities of the snow itself, and finally became fascinated with the unique challenge of photographing snowflakes.
Obata drew inspiration from the story and works of W.A. Bentley, an American farmer and photographer who adapted a camera and microscope to photograph a single snow crystal for the first time in 1885. Bentley went on to photograph more than 5,000 snowflakes in his lifetime, and his technique was so successful that it continues to be used today.
Like Bentley, Obata was obsessed with the challenge of doing something no one had done before – in his case photographing snowflakes in freefall rather than on a flat surface without digital or any other manipulation. It took Obata five years to achieve but his breakthrough resulted in the capture of pictures that allow the snowflakes to relate to each other in space and size, creating dynamic compositions and scenes. Obata chose the location to shoot the series, in the mountains of Hokkaidō, based on its history as the place where Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya did research that led to his invention of artificial snow.
