Colorful ceramic trinket tray with floral motifs, France, circa 1910
Colorful ceramic trinket tray with floral motifs, France, circa 1910

Colorful ceramic trinket tray with floral motifs, France, circa 1910

Located in Auribeau sur Siagne, FR

Charming colorful ceramic trinket tray from circa 1910 France, distinguished by its vibrant yellow background, deep cobalt blue borders, and delicate floral decoration inspired by traditional French decorative arts. This antique French ceramic tray features an elegant elongated rectangular silhouette, combining a shallow profile with a beautifully hand-painted appearance. Its vivid color palette and intricate botanical motifs create a lively and sophisticated decorative composition. The central surface is decorated with a graceful arrangement of flowering branches, leaves, and delicate blossoms, rendered in shades of blue, green, white, and soft earthy tones. These naturalistic motifs unfold across a bright golden-yellow background, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the richness of the decoration. The floral composition features intertwining stems and stylized flowers, arranged in a harmonious horizontal pattern that complements the tray's elongated proportions. Surrounding the central decoration is a distinctive cobalt blue border adorned with a continuous pattern of small flowers and winding foliage. The combination of blue, green, and white detailing adds depth and refinement, framing the central botanical design beautifully. The slightly raised edges and flat rectangular form give the piece a practical yet elegant character. Subtle variations in the painted decoration contribute to its antique charm and artisanal appearance. The vibrant colors and stylized floral ornamentation evoke the decorative traditions of the early 20th century, with influences reminiscent of Art Nouveau and French provincial ceramics. Originally intended as a small decorative or functional household accessory, this antique ceramic tray can now be used as a catchall for jewelry, keys, or other small personal objects. It can also be displayed on a console, dressing table, desk, or bookshelf, where its colorful decoration brings warmth and character to the surrounding interior. Its combination of bold colors, botanical motifs, and traditional craftsmanship makes it particularly suitable for Art Nouveau, French country, Mediterranean, eclectic, and vintage-inspired interiors. A beautiful example of early 20th-century French decorative ceramics, combining vibrant color, floral elegance, and timeless ornamental appeal. Tilgmans Swedish Modern Green Woman Wall Plate, Centerpiece, 1950s
Tilgmans Swedish Modern Green Woman Wall Plate, Centerpiece, 1950s

Tilgmans Swedish Modern Green Woman Wall Plate, Centerpiece, 1950s

By Tilgmans Keramik

Located in Copenhagen, DK

Extraordinary modernist item by Swedish Tilgmans Keramik. Fully glazed centerpiece or wall decoration depicting a green faced woman with long stemmed yellow and blue flowers on a striped dark blue background created with the sgraffito technique. Manufactured in 1957 by German/Swedish Paul Harald Tilgman in his workshop in a small town close to Gothenburg in Sweden. Blue patterned glaze on the sides and muted blue leaves on the milky white glazed base. Signed and dated on base. A rare and unique piece in beautiful condition! Sweden, 1957. About Tilgmans Keramik: Paul Harald “Harry” Tilgmann was born in Dresden, Germany in 1904 and emigrated to Sweden during WWII where he started Tilgmans Keramik (= Ceramics) in 1948 in the small town of Utbynäs close to Gothenburg. Tilgman had 16 employees working for him and when he hired the Polish refugee Marian Zawadzki (1912-1978) as artistic director in 1953, Tilgman Keramik started experimenting with the distinct sgraffito technique. The sgraffito technique consists of carving fine lines into the background of a design through a light coloured glaze down to a dark grey clay slip. This created a unique textured ground which has become a style associated with Tilgmans Keramik in particular. The decorative elements also appear to be outlined with a carved line and then hand painted with overglazes where birds, fish, flowers, butterflies and other animals were a common theme. This type of work was the most popular in Mid Century Sweden alongside Tilgmans small animal figurines...
