A Superb Quality Silver plated Domed oval box This fine oval box was made in the 1920s. It is a good example made from heavy gauge copper with a domed lid which has decorative dragooned moulding at the top edge and also the rim where it opens on a stop hinge. The box has matching mouldings on its top edge and base. This pleasing piece was originally intended as a biscuit box but could have many other uses. An attractive early 17th-century carved oak box of boarded construction from the reign of Charles I, circa 1640. England The box is deeply carved and punch decorated to the frieze in a geometric pattern with rose (guilloche) and lunar decoration, each punch decorated; centred by the original Iron staple lock plate. The moulded rectangular top retains the original Iron clasp and opens on the original hinges. The guilloche was a popular Renaissance motif and was very widely used across the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries. The box is in its original condition and has a lovely rich colour and patina.
