Early 19th century oak candle box from England. This is a wonderful folk art box with loads of character! The top of the box is hand carved and has wonderful scalloped shapes and a central heart, surrounded by inlaid hears for added whimsy. The lid of the box is banded in boxwood and follows down to simple sides and the front panel is also inlaid in boxwood. There is a central frame in which is enclosed another lovely heart over a crossed knife...

An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection. These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form. The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim. Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim. The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength. By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions. Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver box has a plain circular form in the George I style. The surface of the box is plain and encircled with applied molded decoration. This impressive George I style box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with a plain circular elevated panel to the center. The hinge is ornamented with a shaped undulating design in conjunction with the cover and the body. The box secures closed with a hallmarked hinged catch to the anterior edge, reflecting the same design to that of the posterior.
