19th Century Pair of French Bronze Candlesticks Lamps Signed Clodion
Located in IT
Pair of important candlesticks in gilt and patinated bronze, lamp mounted.
Depicting Bacchanal of Satyrs and Signed Clodion.
France 19th Century
Measures h only candlesticks 65 x p 27 cm; h with lampshade 86 cm
This pair of important two lights candlesticks was made in the 19th century, in France, on the style of the great sculptor Clodion. Each candlestick consists of a body with a sculptural group in patinated bronze inspired by the famous bronzes of the master. The base is circular, in gilt bronze finely chiselled with geometric decoration and foliate motifs near the four feet, of feline shape. From the sculptural groups depart two graceful arms in gilded and chiselled bronze, composed of ramage and phytomorphic elements that culminate in the two candle holders.
In a candlestick the bacchanal consists of a female faun figure, that is half a woman and half a goat, playing with small fauns and putti, offering a bunch of grapes. In the other candlestick one observes the satyr Pan...

Pair of Tall Empire Ormolu & Bronze Candelabras Attributed to Gerard Jean Galle
By Gérard-Jean Galle
Located in GRENOBLE, FR
A fine pair of tall ormolu (mercury gilt bronze) and patinated bronze candelabras, French Restauration production, early 19th century work circa 1815 - 1820.
Spectacular 4-lights model held by winged putti standing on a finely chiseled column-shaped base. This pattern is a variant of the candelabras Claude Galle delivered to the Grand Trianon in 1809. This theme used to be very successful in early 19th century and were the subject of a number of imperial orders to Claude Galle, Thomire and Ravrio. Our candelabras were manufactured circa 1815 - 1820 : we attribute them to Gerard Jean Galle...

A Monumental Bronze Hanukkah Lamp by Georges Weil, 1989
Located in New York, NY
This Hanukkah lamp sculpture is truly spectacular with its artistic realism and graphic detailing on its front main body.
Displayed at front is the scene of the Jewish people returning to Israel with Holy Menorah used in the ancient times of the temple.
Seven men are depicted in this scene dressed in flowing robes as tradition in those times with the Holy Menorah resting on a palanquin being carried on their shoulders as a number of them blow the shofar (trumpets) joyously.
In the background are two tall Greek columns on either side of the center scene with a sandy foreground.
The Greek columns and all the features of the main scene are a representation of the miracle that took place on Hanukkah;
During the times of the second temple Israel was under Greek rule, the Greeks had defiled the temple and took from it all the holy vessels used in the daily rituals of the temple.
The Maccabeans rose up and defeated the Greeks and returned the temple and all its vessels to their original intended holy purposes.
Inscribed under the row of eight flaring cups and the ascending stepped base are the words
"Restore my House of Prayer and there we will bring a Thanksgiving offering"
protuberantly displayed in Hebrew...

Pair of Patinated and Polished Bronze Renaissance Revival Candelabra
Located in Hudson, NY
This pair of candelabra made in France, circa 1880 are designed in the Renaissance Revival style. Well cast in a large number of separate parts and patinated and polished to create drama and decorative detail the pair is of a nice scale without being overly large. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
