Pair Antique Renaissance Style Bronze Candleholders Manner of Edward F. Caldwell

Fine and unusual signed Edward F. Caldwell & Co. Neoclassical style silvered bronze box depicting a pair of winged angels playing music at an altar. One angel plays a lyre and the other an aulos or double flute, flanked by impressive torcheres bearing pine cones and surrounded by a wide border of olive leaves and olive fruit. The interior of cover decorated with a highly artistic pair of Bacchus masks flanking a grapevine garland, signed on upper right corner E. F. Caldwell & Co. Inc New York. The sides of the box further decorated with Bacchus masks and grapevine garlands of very fine quality Caldwell is known for. Substantial size- excellent as a jewelry box or tabletop decorative box. Very good condition commensurate with age. Base is lined with black velvet, very slight bend to upper left corner, silvered finish in good condition. Edward F. A very rare, fine large Edward F. Caldwell jeweled champleve enamel folio cover in the High Gothic Style. The central panel depicting a King on a white horse holding a large orb with a snake symbol, surrounded by exquisitely detailed Gothic heraldic elements and jeweled embellishments. Burgundy velvet lined interior, retaining original leather backing and spine, wear commensurate with age, ideal for a museum or private collection. Measurements: 13.63 inches high, 11 inches wide, 1 inch deep Condition: the enamel panel is in excellent condition, age appropriate wear to velvet, leather and interior pages. An exceptional pair of palace size gilt and patinated bronze Rouge Griotte marble candelabra by Claude-Francois Rabiat, circa 1805. Each with a classically draped figure of Winged Victory, the Goddess Nike, holding foliate form candelabra with flame and butterfly wing motif, standing upon a stepped bronze mounted Rouge Griotte marble base. Condition: Original patina and gilding with consistent wear commensurate with age, the bronze elements in excellent condition. A very small abraision to the marble base and a minute area of professional, nearly undetectable restoration to corner of marble base. A magnificent ewer with exquisite repousse silver work depicting generous campagna vases overflowing with flowers, set on scrolled foliate bases. The rim decoration featuring a lined ribbon motif adorned with wreaths. Front design with a large oval laurel leaf border medallion topped with a depiction of a beautiful maiden flanked by wide foliate forms and Belle Epoque scrolls. This pair of candelabra made in France, circa 1880 are designed in the Renaissance Revival style. Well cast in a large number of separate parts and patinated and polished to create drama and decorative detail the pair is of a nice scale without being overly large. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
