A Fine French 19th Century 'Belle Époque' Gilt-Bronze and Rouge Griotte Marble Table Clock by François Linke (1855-1946) Index Number 86. The clockcase modelled as a tambourine amidst blossoming roses, a mask and fan, on an oval bead-edged marble plinth with recessed panels mounted with fruiting vines, on turned feet, the reverse of the white enamel clock dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes signed 'F. Linke, Paris', timepiece movement. Circa: Paris, 1895. François Linke (d. 1946) was awarded the gold medal for his Grand Bureau at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. He was the most celebrated Ébéniste of his time. Born in Bohemia in 1855, he moved to Paris in 1881. He produced furniture of the highest quality at his workshops at 170, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, and established showrooms at 26, Place Vendme. A much simpler version of this commode, with fewer ormolu mounts and with no marquetry, is illustrated in Christopher Payne's "François Linke 1855-1946 The Belle Epoque of French Furniture" Antique Collectors' Club, 2003 Edition, Index 720, Page 498. A striking two train bracket clock of exceptional quality by one of the great nineteenth century makers. The eight day twin fusee movement strikes on a blued steel gong behind a silvered arabic dial, signed Dent and numbered 58242 on both th dial and the back plate. Housed in a solid mahogany case with brass mounts and a gadrooned pergoda top surmounted by an acorn finial, and supported by bun feet. The sides ar pierced with attractive fish scale sound vents lined with dark blue velvet. The movement and case are both of remarkable quality, as you would expect from a clock made by Dent. The history of Dent & Co. spans three centuries of precision watch and clock making in Great Britain. Established in 1814 by Edward J. Dent, the company embraced the Victorian fervour for technological innovation and created precision chronometers to navigate the Royal Navy and guide some of the most intrepid explorers on their voyages. The British Empire was in full expansion and its maritime tradition had produced some remarkable technological breakthroughs from the late 18th century. Propelling the impetus of Britain’s primacy, Dent proved a key player in Victorian horological history manufacturing the Standard Clock at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich which was to keep “Greenwich Mean Time” the time to which all others in the Empire were referred (better known today as G.M.T.) and continued to do so until replaced by an electronic clock in 1946. Dent also made probably the most famous clock in the world - the Great Clock for the Houses of Parliament, familiarly known as Big Ben. Belle epoque desk clock designed by Cartier. An impressive and magnificent "mignonette" desk clock, created in Paris France by the house of Cartier, during the Edwardian Belle Epoque period, back in the 1905. This stunning piece is very rare and has been designed with neoclassic French patterns and carefully crafted with parts made up in yellow gold of 18 karats, silver and platinum. It is mounted with four spherical parts, carved from green chrysoprase. The five sides are embellished with applications of vivid purple enamel over a sunburst and linear guilloche ground and the borders are accented with a linear frame of white champleve enamel. Fitted in the reverse with a sistem to open and close the three winding parts to manipulate. Movement: Mechanical 8 days, key winding and It is accompanied with the associated original key. Dial: White ceramic with gold batons for the seconds, with Arabic black numerals and gold hands, inscribed, Cartier Paris-London. Diamonds: The platinum part on top is mount, with 60 calibrated Old European rose cuts diamonds, 0.30 carats, F color, VS-1 clarity Chrysoprase: Mounted with screws on the base, with 4 four spherical cabochon cuts carved from natural translucent green chrysoprase with a weight of 8 carats. Weight: 272.8 Grams, (174.87 Dwt). Measurements: 47 mm by 40 mm by 70 mm (1.85 x 1.57 x 2.75 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks, the mark for the silver and gold assay and warranty, the maker's mark for Eugène Bako inside a lozange cartouche, the case numbers, the Cartier serial numbers and signed at the bottom, "CARTIER 2027 LONDON PARIS 11290 S".
